Art Garfunkel and Paul Simon met for lunch in 2024 and began repairing a friendship strained for years. Garfunkel has said he would try a reunion tour, but his latest comments, in a Guardian interview published September 4, 2026, do not announce one: he said he had not seen Simon in the past year and declined to predict what might happen.
What happened when Garfunkel and Simon met for lunch?
Garfunkel told The Guardian in November 2024 that he and Simon had lunch “a couple of weeks back,” their first time together in many years. During the meal, Simon brought up an old interview in which Garfunkel had said hurtful things about him. Garfunkel said Simon explained how those remarks had affected him; Garfunkel cried, recognized that he had been foolish, and apologized.

Rolling Stone’s 2024 account adds how the meeting came about: Garfunkel encountered Simon’s son Harper at New York’s Pierre hotel, and Harper arranged lunch at the hotel restaurant. Garfunkel said he and Simon got on well and shared laughs.
Did the lunch lead to a reunion?
There were signs of warmth after lunch, but warmth is not the same as an agreement to record or perform. In a 2025 interview with GRAMMY.com, Garfunkel described a later dinner, hugs and tears, and said the meeting felt like a possibility. He recalled Simon showing him new songs and said his own sincere appreciation encouraged Simon. That account describes Garfunkel’s experience; it does not establish that the pair agreed to make music together.

Their renewed contact followed years of estrangement. The Guardian reported that they had stopped speaking after their 2010 tour. In 2024, the paper also recalled Simon’s words at his 2001 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction: “I regret the ending of our friendship. I hope that some day before we die we will make peace with each other. No rush.”
Will Simon & Garfunkel tour again?
There is no confirmed reunion tour in the statements reported here. Garfunkel was open to the possibility in a 2024 Rolling Stone interview: “I would give it a try and see where it leads. If the blend is still there, it will be irresistible.” That was a conditional response from Garfunkel, not an announcement or evidence that Simon had agreed.

In 2025, Garfunkel told The Independent, “I’m in the mood to work with him,” while saying he did not know whether Simon felt the same. He floated a Las Vegas residency as a hypothetical alternative to repeated travel and performances on the road. No residency was booked in that account.
The latest direct update in the sources cited here came in The Guardian’s September 4, 2026 interview, updated September 18. Garfunkel said of the earlier reconciliation, “That was about a year ago and I haven’t seen him in the last year.” Asked about another tour together, he did not offer a plan: “Who knows what the future will bring? Life is a surprise.” Simon’s willingness to tour with Garfunkel is not established by these accounts.

How this differs from their past reunions
The duo’s history makes the possibility resonant, but it does not make a new tour inevitable. Their 1981 Central Park concert drew a reported half a million people, according to The Guardian’s 2026 interview; it also produced a double live LP and a video, as described in the paper’s 2024 report.
Their last full show together was at Jazz Fest in April 2010, according to Rolling Stone. They performed “Mrs. Robinson” at an AFI tribute in June of that year. Those performances predate the 2024 lunch and do not indicate that another joint appearance is scheduled.

Garfunkel’s solo tour is separate
Garfunkel’s own touring plans should not be mistaken for Simon & Garfunkel dates. The Guardian reported in September 2026 that his What a Wonderful World tour was set to begin October 1, 2026, with dates in the US, UK, France, Germany, and Japan. The same interview says Garfunkel asked Simon about Simon’s recent tour; neither fact is a sign that the two were planning to tour together.
