It was her first studio album since Positions (2020), an interval of about three and a half years. The original album has 13 tracks and runs 35 minutes.
When did Ariana Grande release eternal sunshine?
The album came out on March 8, 2024, through Republic Records. It was Grande’s seventh studio album and followed Positions, released in 2020. Universal Music Japan described the gap as about three and a half years, making “first album in over three years” an accurate description of the interval.
What does the album title mean?
eternal sunshine takes its title and a loose conceptual cue from Michel Gondry’s 2004 film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, whose story involves erasing memories. The album draws on that memory-erasure idea while exploring complicated love and heartbreak; the film reference is a framing device, not a claim that the songs literally recount the film’s plot.
In an Apple Music interview excerpt, Grande described the album’s approach this way: “Love is complicated. Showcasing both sides of it is what I tried to [do].” The album’s closing track, “ordinary things,” features her grandmother, whom Grande calls Nonna.

Universal Music Canada said on October 1, 2024, that the 24-song version includes seven new live versions.
