What the July 2026 report claims
PEOPLE published its latest update on July 6, 2026. The article cites an unnamed source who said Jada moved back in with Will “two years ago,” which places the move around 2024. The same source described the couple as “happy and love each other and are, as ever, committed to supporting each other.”

Three details matter for reading that report accurately:
- The timing is the source’s account. The “about two years” figure is the source’s estimate. The report does not include a date the move occurred.
- There is no direct confirmation. The reviewed coverage contains no statement from Will Smith or Jada Pinkett Smith about the move-in or the description of their relationship.
- The report looks back at earlier coverage. PEOPLE’s 2026 story refers to a January 2025 source account that the two were still together but living in separate homes. That was a description of their situation at that time, not of their current arrangement.
Timeline of the reported arrangement

What Jada Pinkett Smith said in 2023
Jada’s own account is the only on-the-record explanation of the couple’s status. It dates from 2023, so it describes their situation then, not now. In her interview with Hoda Kotb, she said that “by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying.” She also addressed divorce directly: “I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce.”
In her PEOPLE interview that year, she described the relationship as one of “deep love for each other,” adding that the two were “going to figure out what that looks like for us.” She also said, “I’m going to be by his side… but also allow him to have to figure this out for himself.”
Taken together, these remarks describe a separation that was not a divorce on paper and an effort to work out what partnership meant for them. They do not say where either of them lived, and they do not describe a move-in.
How to weigh the two kinds of claim
Readers often combine the 2023 statements and the 2026 report into a single picture. They are different types of evidence:

- Unnamed-source reporting (January 2025 and July 2026): Secondhand descriptions of living arrangements and feelings, given without a name or role. They are reported claims, not confirmed facts.
Separate homes and a shared home are not two verified current options to compare. The only confirmed points are the 2016 start of the separation and Jada’s 2023 description of it. Everything about where they live now rests on the unnamed source.
What is and is not established
- Established: Jada publicly said in 2023 that the couple had been separated since 2016 and that they had never been divorced on paper.
- Established: PEOPLE reported in January 2025 that the couple were still together while living in separate homes, citing a source.
- Reported but not confirmed: Jada moved back in with Will around 2024, and the couple are happy and committed to each other.

A direct statement from either Will Smith or Jada Pinkett Smith would be the first on-the-record confirmation of the current arrangement. Until one appears, the July 2026 report stands as a single source’s account, and the most accurate summary is the one the reporting itself supports: the couple have been separated since 2016, and a 2026 source says they are still together and that Jada moved back in around 2024.
