Yes. Several Thunderbolts characters are confirmed in the announced Avengers: Doomsday ensemble, and the team’s post-credit scene in Thunderbolts* provides a direct connection to the film’s multiverse setup. But “big impact” remains a prediction: the movie has not been released, and no available official information establishes how much screen time the team—or any individual member—will get.
Which Thunderbolts characters are confirmed in Avengers: Doomsday?
Disney’s current official Avengers: Doomsday page lists Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Lewis Pullman, and Hannah John-Kamen in the cast. Its image caption identifies Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, and John Walker alongside the Fantastic Four, Ant-Man, Captain America, and Thor.
The confirmed overlap is substantial, but it is not the same as a confirmation that every member of the Thunderbolts* team will appear. Disney describes that earlier film’s unconventional antihero team as Yelena, Bucky, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker. Taskmaster is not named on the current Doomsday cast page. That omission does not prove the character is absent from the finished film; it means only that the current official listing does not confirm an appearance.
What did the Thunderbolts* post-credit scene set up?
The scene offers the clearest narrative bridge. In a July 20, 2026 trailer analysis, ComicBook.com describes the New Avengers at their Watchtower discovering the Fantastic Four’s ship, the Excelsior. The same analysis says the Doomsday trailer confirms the Fantastic Four are aboard with Thor. That connects the Thunderbolts’ story to the crossover’s announced cast and trailer material, though the scene’s broader meaning should not be treated as a confirmed explanation of the film’s plot.

Disney’s official synopsis describes heroes from “three distinct universes” on a collision course with an existential threat. The synopsis establishes a multiverse-scale premise, but it does not say what the Thunderbolts’ specific mission will be, how the universes connect, or how the heroes will respond.
Does this mean the Thunderbolts will drive the story?
Not necessarily. The official cast list and image confirm that several characters associated with the Thunderbolts are part of the announced ensemble. The post-credit connection gives them a credible route into the film’s events. Neither fact establishes that the team will be the central protagonists, lead the response to the threat, or receive a particular share of the story.

Disney’s July 20, 2026 UK trailer announcement and current film page establish the release and ensemble context, not individual character arcs or screen time. The film’s eventual balance between the New Avengers and the other heroes cannot be determined from cast announcements alone.
When is Avengers: Doomsday due out?
Disney’s current U.S. film page lists Avengers: Doomsday for theatrical release on December 18, 2026. Release dates can be territory-specific; Disney UK’s July 20, 2026 announcement is the appropriate reference for its regional information. Until the film arrives or Marvel releases more story details, the safest conclusion is that the Thunderbolts have a confirmed place in the ensemble and a clear setup connection, while the scale of their impact remains unknown.

Should you watch Thunderbolts* first?
Watching Thunderbolts* is useful if you want the context for the New Avengers and their post-credit scene. It is not established as a prerequisite for understanding Doomsday. Disney’s official Thunderbolts* page lists the film’s release date as May 2, 2025, runtime as 2 hours 6 minutes, and rating as PG-13, and advertises Blu-ray and Disney+ options. Availability on Disney+ may vary by region.
For additional context, the Disney UK trailer announcement gives the studio’s July 20, 2026 release information, while the Associated Press cast report independently covered the overlap between the films’ casts.
