There is no established rule that ponies in every My Little Pony generation are omnivores, or that they fish in order to eat fish. A G5 creative guide describes ponies as technically vegetarian, but that production guidance does not settle the question for G4’s Friendship Is Magic. And even if a pony is shown fishing in a particular scene, fishing alone would not prove the catch is eaten.
What does My Little Pony say ponies eat?
The clearest dietary statement in the sources here comes from a G5 creative guide: “Technically, ponies are vegetarians and their diet consists of lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.” The same guide recommends pony-styled versions of foods traditionally based on meat. This is production guidance for G5—not a universal canon rule for every generation, and not a verified G4 statement.
That distinction matters because My Little Pony is a franchise with multiple generations and different kinds of evidence. A creative reference guide describes how writers should portray characters; an episode shows what happens in a particular story. Neither should be stretched beyond what it actually establishes.
Does Friendship Is Magic show ponies eating meat or fish?
A transcript for G4’s season 2 episode 19, “Putting Your Hoof Down,” records Fluttershy naming “Carrots, lettuce and apples, yum yum yum!” as she prepares food for Angel Bunny. She also discusses a special meal with a cherry garnish. The scene concerns feeding Angel Bunny, not stating what Fluttershy or ponies generally eat.

So this scene is not evidence that ponies are omnivores, nor does it establish that they are vegetarian. It shows one pony preparing particular foods for an animal in her care. The available evidence does not provide a definitive G4 dietary rule.
Does fishing mean ponies eat fish?
No—not by itself. Three separate questions need to be answered before a fishing scene can establish a diet: whether a pony is actually shown fishing, whether the catch is shown being eaten, and whether the series or its production material presents that as a general pony habit.

The sources available here do not verify a specific G4 fishing scene or explain its purpose. A fan-maintained search index or wiki can help locate dialogue and scenes, but it is not an official canon statement. Without checking the episode itself, claims about who fished, what they caught, or what happened afterward would be speculation.
The G5 guide does mention fish among the ocean animals in Maretime Bay. That identifies fish as part of the setting’s wildlife; it does not say ponies eat them.
