Ryan Reynolds did make a surprise appearance as Deadpool in the audience during the July 2026 Doomsday panel at San Diego Comic-Con, but Disney reported that as an event appearance—not a casting announcement.
Are Deadpool and Wolverine in Avengers: Doomsday?
Disney’s July 2026 San Diego Comic-Con report says Ryan Reynolds appeared in the audience as Deadpool during the Doomsday panel. The report does not announce Reynolds or Hugh Jackman as cast members. An actor appearing in character at a promotional event is not evidence that the character appears in the film. Disney’s panel coverage and its current film page do not confirm either actor’s casting.
The published cast information is useful for understanding what has been announced, but it cannot rule out a later announcement or an unpublicized surprise. D23’s March 2025 cast announcement includes Channing Tatum, whose Gambit appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine, but does not list Reynolds or Jackman. Tatum’s inclusion does not confirm Deadpool or Wolverine.
Are they in Avengers: Secret Wars?
No official source reviewed confirms Reynolds or Jackman for Secret Wars, either. D23’s announcement identifies Anthony and Joe Russo as the film’s directors, but does not announce either actor as part of its cast. The available evidence supports “unconfirmed,” not a prediction about whether they will eventually appear.

What the announcements do—and do not—show
| Evidence | What it establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Reynolds’s July 2026 SDCC appearance as Deadpool, reported by Disney | He appeared in character in the audience during the Doomsday panel. | A role for Deadpool in Doomsday or either upcoming film. |
| Disney’s current Doomsday page and D23’s cast announcement | The cast information those official pages have published. | That no later casting announcement or surprise appearance can happen. |
| D23’s announcement of the Russo brothers’ involvement with Secret Wars | Anthony and Joe Russo are directing the film. | That Reynolds or Jackman is attached to it. |
Disney lists Avengers: Doomsday for release on December 18, 2026, on its film page. That date is the listed release date, not a guarantee that schedules cannot change.
Why the earlier film and comics do not settle the question
Disney’s press kit for Deadpool & Wolverine identifies Reynolds and Jackman with those characters in that film. It does not announce their participation in either upcoming Avengers movie.

- Official casting announcement: The clearest confirmation is a studio or filmmaker announcement that names the actor or character in the film.
- Promotional appearance: A panel appearance, cameo in event materials, or in-character surprise can attract attention without announcing a role.
- Fan theories and rumors: These may suggest possibilities, but they are not confirmation unless supported by an official announcement.
As of October 8, 2026, the official material reviewed places Reynolds’s SDCC appearance in the promotional category. It does not confirm Deadpool or Wolverine in either film.
