The U.S. Department of Justice’s Section 3 report lists Beyoncé, George Clooney and Jay Z among people named or referenced in released materials. But the report does not explain the context for any of these three entries, and a name on the list alone does not establish wrongdoing, a relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, or the nature of the underlying mention.
What does the DOJ report list?
The document, titled Epstein Files Transparency Act – Section 3 Report to Congress, includes a list of government officials and politically exposed persons whose names appear in released files at least once. The three entries appear with the report’s spellings and ordering:

- “Beyonce”
- “Clooney, George”
- “Jay Z”
The report does not provide an explanation beside any of these names identifying the document in which it appears or why it is mentioned. Read the DOJ report’s list.
What does it mean to be mentioned in the Epstein files?
Not all mentions mean the same thing. DOJ says names appear in a wide variety of contexts: some people had extensive direct email contact with Epstein or Ghislaine Maxwell, while others are mentioned only in a part of a document—such as press reporting—that appears unrelated to them. The list does not distinguish the context for each entry.

Accordingly, being listed is not the same as being accused, identified as a client or associate, or found to have committed wrongdoing. For these three public figures, the Section 3 report alone does not establish what any individual mention refers to. See DOJ’s explanation of the varied contexts.

DOJ says omissions from the list were unintentional and resulted from the volume and speed of its compliance work. It also says people whose names were redacted for law-enforcement-sensitive reasons are not included. The list should not be treated as a complete accounting of every person mentioned in every released file. Read the report’s qualification about omissions and redactions.
In its January 30, 2026 announcement, DOJ said the release added more than 3 million pages, bringing the combined production to nearly 3.5 million pages. That announcement also described more than 2,000 videos and 180,000 images in the additional publication, and said more than 500 DOJ attorneys and reviewers contributed. DOJ identified records from several investigations and cases, including Epstein cases in Florida and New York, the New York Maxwell case, investigations into Epstein’s death, a Florida case involving a former butler, multiple FBI investigations and an Office of Inspector General investigation. These are figures and descriptions from the January 30 announcement, not a guarantee of the current total after that date. Read DOJ’s release announcement.
DOJ also warned that responsive material submitted to the FBI by members of the public was included, and the production may contain fake or falsely submitted images, documents or videos. Inclusion in the production does not, on its own, validate a claim or document. Any specific allegation should be assessed against the underlying record, its source and its context. Read DOJ’s warning about public-submitted material.
