The new Apple TV series most likely meant by this headline is Brothers, an eight-episode comedy starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. It premieres globally on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, with two episodes, followed by weekly Wednesday releases. Its unusual premise and famous leading pair make it one of Apple TV’s most conspicuous September launches—but “must-watch” remains a prediction until audiences can see whether the jokes and story work.
What is Brothers about?
Brothers casts McConaughey and Harrelson as fictionalized versions of themselves. The longtime friends discover a decades-old secret suggesting that they may actually be biological brothers.
That setup gives the series several comic angles at once: celebrity self-parody, friendship under pressure, family awkwardness and a mystery that can unfold across the season. Apple describes the series as a comedy, although its secret-driven story may also include serialized character and family drama.
The show is created and run by Lee Eisenberg, who is also an executive producer. McConaughey and Harrelson executive produce as well, while Paramount Television Studios handles production. Apple’s official announcement identifies Eisenberg as a multi-Emmy nominee and Peabody Award winner, but those credentials are not a guarantee that every element of this new series will succeed.

Why could it be worth watching?
The McConaughey–Harrelson pairing is the central draw
The two actors bring recognizable public personas to roles that deliberately play with audience expectations. Their real-world friendship also adds an extra layer to the premise: viewers know that the show is using familiar personalities, but the characters are still fictionalized versions rather than straightforward documentaries about the actors’ lives.
That is a promising foundation for a buddy comedy. McConaughey and Harrelson can be played as contrasting personalities, reluctant family members or exaggerated versions of themselves. However, their history and public rapport should be treated as reasons for interest—not proof that the new production has already demonstrated great on-screen chemistry.
The hook is immediately understandable
Some high-concept streaming shows require several episodes before their appeal becomes clear. Brothers has a premise that can be explained in one sentence: two famous friends learn they might be related.

The revelation may create arguments about identity, family and loyalty, while the actors’ celebrity status gives the writers opportunities to satirize entertainment culture. The risk is that the “are they really brothers?” question could become repetitive if the series relies on the reveal rather than developing the characters around it.
Eight episodes make the commitment manageable
The first season contains eight episodes. That is not evidence that the series will be better than a longer show, but it does make the commitment relatively contained. The two-episode launch should also give viewers a more useful first impression than a single episode would.

The finale date follows Apple’s announced weekly schedule and could change if the release plan is revised. Apple describes the debut as global, but viewers should check the local Apple TV listing for regional availability and launch timing.
What kind of comedy is it?
It is best understood as more than a simple celebrity comedy. Based on the announced premise, Brothers combines:
- Buddy-comedy dynamics
- Show-business and celebrity satire
- Family-comedy complications
- A mystery built around a long-hidden secret
- Potentially serialized character drama
Apple officially labels it a comedy, but its precise tone cannot be confirmed before trailers, reviews or episodes are available. It may appeal to viewers who like a light premise with an ongoing story rather than a completely episodic sitcom.
Why the “must-watch” label needs caution
Brothers has a strong pre-release case, but there is not yet enough evidence to call it a proven hit or a critical success. The available case rests primarily on its cast, premise and creative team.

- The family-secret structure may become formulaic if each episode repeats the same uncertainty without meaningful development.
- A recognizable star pairing does not guarantee consistently strong jokes or a satisfying season arc.
- There is no verified critical reception or completed-season audience response to assess yet.
For that reason, the fairest description is that Brothers is one of Apple TV’s most promising September 2026 premieres—not an established must-watch.

Who is most likely to enjoy it?
The series should be a natural fit for:
- Fans of McConaughey or Harrelson
- Viewers who enjoy actor-driven comedies
- People interested in celebrity self-parody
- Audiences who like friendship stories with a high-concept twist
- Apple TV subscribers looking for a lighter alternative to thrillers and prestige dramas

Slow Horses season 6 — September 16
The sixth season of Slow Horses premieres on September 16, 2026. It returns Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb and is a six-episode continuation of the acclaimed espionage drama, drawing from Mick Herron’s novels Joe Country and Slough House. It may be the stronger choice for established fans, but it is a returning season, not a new show.
Apple’s season-six announcement also lists Lenny Rush among the performers.
Last Seen — listed for September 9
Apple’s 2026 Originals catalog lists Last Seen for September 9, 2026. The available listing does not provide enough verified information about its cast, premise, format or reception to make it the subject of a detailed recommendation here.

How to watch
Brothers will stream on Apple TV. An Apple TV 4K device is not required: viewers should use the official Apple TV service and check compatibility with their smart TV, phone, tablet, computer, game console or streaming device.

It is too early to prove that Brothers will be a must-watch. But McConaughey and Harrelson playing heightened versions of themselves, a secret suggesting they are brothers, Lee Eisenberg’s comedy leadership and a compact eight-episode schedule give the series a clearer reason to watch than a generic celebrity vehicle.
If the premise appeals to you, the September 23 double-episode launch is a sensible opportunity to judge it quickly. If you are skeptical of celebrity self-parody, waiting for independent reviews is the safer choice.
