In the U.S., Apple’s streaming service—still widely called Apple TV+—costs $12.99 a month after a seven-day trial. It includes Apple Originals, including documentaries and films, plus Friday Night Baseball, every MLS match in the 2026 season, and the full 2026 Formula 1 season in the U.S. Apple Originals are presented without ads. The key catch: the Apple TV app also sells rentals, purchases, and separate subscriptions, so seeing a title in the app does not mean it comes with your subscription. Apple TV+ is now generally branded as Apple TV
Apple’s current consumer-facing pages generally call the subscription Apple TV. “Apple TV+” remains a familiar name in older articles and everyday searches, so the two names are often used interchangeably for the streaming service.
Three similarly named things are easy to confuse:
- Apple TV subscription: Access to Apple’s original series, films, documentaries, and included sports.
- Apple TV app: The app where you can browse Apple Originals alongside rentals, purchases, Apple TV Channels, and some partner services.
- Apple TV 4K: Apple’s streaming box, which is optional; you can watch on many smart TVs and other devices.
Apple TV Channels and other third-party subscriptions are not automatically included in the Apple TV subscription. Check whether a title is marked as included before pressing play. Apple’s U.S. service page shows the current offer and catalog.

The U.S. standalone plan is $12.99 per month after a seven-day free trial for eligible new subscribers. The subscription has no general ad-supported tier; Apple describes its Originals as ad-free. Trial eligibility and offers can vary, so check the terms presented at signup. If you begin a trial, note its end date and the recurring price shown before confirming.

Apple does not prominently list a universal annual standalone plan on its current U.S. consumer page. Do not assume a yearly option is available: billing can differ when you subscribe through a partner, bundle, or promotion.
Other ways to get Apple TV
- Apple One: Apple TV is included in the U.S. Individual plan at $19.95/month, Family at $27.95/month, and Premier at $39.95/month. These bundles include other Apple services, so compare the price with what you already pay for separately. See Apple One plans and terms.
- Apple Music Student Plan: Apple’s service page says access to Apple TV is included; confirm current eligibility and terms with the student offer.
- Qualifying Apple hardware promotion: Eligible customers who buy and activate certain Apple devices may receive three months free. It is a promotion, not permanent free access; eligibility and terms apply.
- Family Sharing: The subscription can be shared with up to five family members through Apple Family Sharing. Set up Family Sharing rather than sharing an Apple Account password.
Apple also offers a U.S.-only Apple TV and Peacock bundle: $14.99/month with Peacock Premium (with ads) or $19.99/month with Peacock Premium Plus, which has ad-free viewing subject to exclusions. This may suit a household that wants both catalogs, but compare it with existing subscriptions and check which service bills you. Review the bundle details.
What is included—and what is not?
The subscription centers on Apple-produced and Apple-commissioned programming: scripted series, feature films, documentaries and nonfiction, kids’ and family programming, specials, and selected live sports. Apple says it adds new releases weekly and describes its library as hundreds of Originals and thousands of hours of programming; those totals are Apple’s descriptions and the catalog changes over time.

Apple TV is not a cable-style live-TV package. It does not include every channel or every sports league, and the Apple TV app can display content that costs extra. Rentals, purchases, Apple TV Channels, and third-party subscriptions are separate unless a specific promotion or bundle says otherwise. Availability, release timing, language tracks, subtitles, and sports rights can vary by country.

Shows, films, and documentaries to explore
Apple’s current U.S. catalog highlights shows including Severance, Ted Lasso, The Studio, The Morning Show, Slow Horses, Shrinking, Your Friends & Neighbors, Hijack, and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. These are examples, not a promise that every title is available in every region or remains in the catalog indefinitely.
For documentary viewers, look through the service’s nonfiction and documentary selections as well as its drama and film categories. The library can change, so use the Apple TV app or Apple’s catalog page to confirm that a particular documentary is currently included in your country. The title list is not exhaustive, and a listing in the app may be a rental or purchase rather than part of the subscription.
A practical way to judge the catalog is to pick several titles you genuinely want to watch, then check that they are included in your region. The value is strongest for someone who returns for new Originals or nonfiction releases; it is less compelling if you only want one program for a short stretch.

The package has grown, but it is still not a complete sports replacement. Coverage depends on country and season. In particular, Apple’s 2026 Formula 1 offer described below is for the United States.

MLS: every match included in 2026
Starting with the 2026 season, Apple TV subscribers get every regular-season MLS match, the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, Leagues Cup, the MLS All-Star Game, and Campeones Cup, along with studio and on-demand programming. Apple says MLS is available without blackouts in more than 100 countries and regions; check local availability because rights and access can differ. The standalone MLS Season Pass arrangement ended after the 2025 season, so it is not the normal separate purchase for 2026. Apple’s MLS announcement explains the change.
Formula 1: full 2026 season in the U.S.
For viewers in the United States, Apple TV is the exclusive home for the 2026 Formula 1 season. The subscription includes practice, qualifying, Sprint sessions, and Grand Prix races, live and on demand. Apple also describes multiple live feeds and Multiview on supported devices. This is not a global F1 offer: viewers outside the U.S. should check their local rights holder. On Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD, Apple specifies tvOS 26.2 or later for F1; confirm your exact model and software. Read Apple’s U.S. F1 announcement.
Friday Night Baseball: two selected MLB games
During the MLB regular season, Apple TV carries a weekly Friday doubleheader of two selected games. Apple’s 2026 announcement says the package is available in 60 countries and regions. It is not every MLB game, and local availability should be checked. See Apple’s 2026 schedule announcement.
Outside these offerings, do not assume that Apple TV includes every NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, or college game. Other sports services and Apple TV Channels are separate subscriptions, and broadcasts can include sponsorships or promotional segments even when Apple Originals are ad-free.

Supported devices
You generally do not need Apple hardware. The Apple TV app or website is available across a broad range of platforms, but exact models, operating systems, regions, and features matter. App availability also does not guarantee that you can buy a subscription inside that app.

For model-specific checks, use Apple’s current lists for smart TVs and streaming devices, game consoles, and Apple TV hardware.
How to sign up and start watching
- Open the Apple TV app or go to tv.apple.com.
- Sign in with an Apple Account and choose the subscription offer shown for your region.
- Review the trial, recurring price, and billing terms, then confirm if you want to subscribe.
- On a television or streaming device, install or open Apple TV, then sign in with the same account. If the app does not offer signup or purchasing, subscribe on the web or another supported device and sign in on the TV.
- Browse Apple TV for Originals and the Sports section for live programming. For MLS, Apple’s guidance is to search MLS or a club, select a match, and choose Watch; see Apple’s MLS viewing instructions.
If you subscribe through a partner, manage billing and cancellation through that provider. Before starting a new plan, check whether you already have Apple TV through Apple One, a student plan, a bundle, or a promotion to avoid duplicate charges.
Is Apple TV worth it?
- Good fit for Apple Originals and documentaries: It can be worthwhile if you regularly watch the service’s exclusive series, films, and nonfiction, rather than subscribing for one title and forgetting to cancel.
- Especially compelling for U.S. F1 fans: The 2026 plan includes all sessions and races, subject to compatible devices and software.
- A major change for MLS fans: All MLS matches and the named competitions are included with Apple TV in 2026, rather than requiring the former standalone Season Pass arrangement.
- Useful, but limited, for MLB fans: Friday Night Baseball adds two selected games weekly; it does not replace a package for every game.
- Not a cable replacement: If you want a large lineup of live news, entertainment, and sports channels, Apple TV alone is unlikely to meet that need.
- Check Apple One first: If you already pay for Apple Music or iCloud+, an Apple One plan may have better overall value. If Apple TV is the only service you want, standalone is simpler.
For a documentary-first viewer, the decision turns on whether the current nonfiction catalog has enough included titles you want to watch over time. Browse before subscribing, confirm each title is included in your region, and factor in whether you will also use the included sports or bundle services.
