Apple TV launched as a Prime Video add-on in Australia, Canada and the UK on December 5, 2024. It is an optional, separately billed subscription—not part of the standard Prime membership catalogue—so you need to pay for the Apple TV add-on even if you already subscribe to Prime. You can watch its included titles in Prime Video without installing the Apple TV app. Amazon’s launch announcement describes the offer; the price and terms displayed at checkout are the ones to rely on today.
What launched, and where?
Amazon added Apple TV as an optional subscription channel inside Prime Video in Australia, Canada and the UK on December 5, 2024. The US rollout came earlier, in October 2024, according to contemporaneous coverage. The December launch covered those three markets; it did not establish availability in every country where Prime Video operates.
The names can be confusing. Prime membership is Amazon’s base subscription; Prime Video add-ons are separate paid subscriptions managed through Amazon. Apple TV—called Apple TV+ in much launch-era coverage—is Apple’s streaming service. The Prime Video launch did not add Apple Originals to the free-with-Prime catalogue.
What does it cost?
Amazon’s December 2024 announcement and contemporaneous reporting gave the following Prime Video add-on launch prices. They are historical figures, not verified current channel prices. The latest direct Apple prices listed on the country pages cited below are shown separately; they are not Prime Video prices.

Amazon’s announcement does not confirm that its launch prices remain in effect. Check the current local Prime Video offer before subscribing; trial availability and eligibility may vary by account, country, device and date. Apple’s direct subscription prices and trial terms are separate from Amazon’s offer.
What can you watch?
Amazon’s launch announcement named Apple Originals including Severance, Slow Horses, Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, Silo, Bad Sisters, Presumed Innocent, Shrinking, Hijack, Loot and Palm Royale. Launch film examples included Wolfs and The Instigators. These are examples from the launch, not a promise that every title remains available in every region. Apple describes its service as carrying hundreds of original series and films, with new releases added regularly on its Australian service page.
The launch announcement also mentioned select MLS Season Pass matches and a weekly MLB double-header billed as “Friday Night Baseball.” That wording does not mean every MLS or MLB game is included in every market. Sports, events and availability depend on territory, season and rights. Check the local offer and event listing.

A title appearing in Prime Video search does not by itself mean it is included in the Apple TV add-on. It might require another subscription, be offered to rent or buy, or be unavailable in your territory. Apple says its subscription does not include third-party subscriptions or separate rental and purchase content; see its Canada service page.

How to subscribe through Prime Video
- Sign in to Prime Video with the Amazon account you want to use for billing.
- Search for “Apple TV” or open the add-ons or channels area. Labels and placement can vary by device and date.
- Select the Apple TV subscription offer and review the local price, any trial, and the displayed terms.
- Confirm through Amazon if you want to proceed. The subscription is billed through your Amazon account, separately from Prime membership.
- Find Apple TV titles within Prime Video and check that each title is included with the channel before playing.
Amazon said the add-on needs no extra app beyond Prime Video and no cable subscription. That makes an Apple device unnecessary for this viewing route, but you still need a device or browser that supports Prime Video playback. Amazon’s announcement describes broad Prime Video device availability; it does not guarantee every channel feature works on every compatible device.

Apple says its service works without owning an Apple TV 4K. Its support information lists platforms including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android devices, smart TVs, streaming devices and game consoles; see Apple Australia’s platform information, Apple Canada’s platform information and Apple’s device support page. Availability of a particular app or feature can depend on device and region.

Choose based on the current local price, the app you prefer, and any bundle you already have—not the old launch price. If you mainly want Apple TV and already qualify for Apple One or a student offer, check whether that covers the service before adding a separate Amazon channel. If you mainly use Prime Video, the channel may simplify viewing and billing, but the current checkout price determines whether it costs less.

An Apple-billed subscription does not automatically transfer to Amazon when you sign up for the Prime Video version. They are separate subscription relationships. Before starting a new offer, check subscriptions on your Apple account, Amazon’s Prime Video channel or subscription-management page, and your payment statements. Otherwise, it is possible to pay both companies for access to the service.
If you decide to move, first confirm that the Prime Video subscription is active and that the titles you want play. Then manage the previous subscription through the provider that bills it. Amazon’s launch announcement said the add-on could be cancelled at any time; the end date, refund treatment and trial-cancellation rules depend on the local terms shown when you subscribe.

Troubleshooting: missing channel or unavailable title
Apple TV does not appear in Prime Video
- Check that your Amazon account’s country and billing region match an eligible market; the December 2024 launch named Australia, Canada and the UK.
- Search Prime Video for an Apple TV title or try the add-ons area; menus differ between devices.
- Update Prime Video and your device software, then try Prime Video in a browser or on another supported device.
- Check Amazon’s local channel and subscription pages for current availability. A channel may not appear on every device interface.
A title appears but will not play
Check its label and details. It may need a different subscription, be a rental or purchase, be unavailable in your territory, have left the catalogue, or be a sports event subject to local rights. Look for the indicator that the title is included with the Apple TV subscription rather than assuming that search placement means access is covered.
Playback fails on one device
Try another compatible Prime Video device or browser, update the app, and confirm the account is signed in. Broad compatibility for Prime Video does not establish that every channel feature works on every device. Do not use a VPN to bypass regional availability; it can cause rights, payment or account problems.
Why the distinction matters
“Available on Prime Video” means Apple TV is offered through Prime Video as a paid channel; it does not mean Prime membership includes the service. Nor does channel access establish that every Apple TV app feature, sports event or regional title is identical across platforms. Verify the current local offer and the inclusion label for the programme you want.
