The advertised Apple TV+ free weekend for August 22–23, 2026, is not confirmed by the official Apple pages reviewed before those dates—and that weekend has now passed. As of August 18, Apple’s U.S. pages showed an eligible-new-subscriber seven-day trial, not a universal free-viewing promotion. The trial and other offers described below are the routes Apple listed then; check Apple’s pages for current terms before signing up.
Was Apple TV free for everyone on August 22–23?
No universal free weekend was confirmed on Apple’s official U.S. pages checked on August 18, 2026. Those pages advertised a seven-day trial for eligible new subscribers and other offers with specific eligibility requirements. They did not establish that everyone could watch Apple TV’s catalog free for August 22–23, or that a separate promotion ended Sunday night. The dates have passed, so do not treat the old reminder headline as an active offer.
Apple’s current consumer-facing name for the subscription is Apple TV, though many viewers and older coverage call it Apple TV+. A normal seven-day trial is not the same thing as a free weekend: it is an account-specific offer that may require billing information and renew at the displayed price unless canceled. What does Apple’s seven-day trial include?
Apple describes the subscription as access to hundreds of exclusive shows and movies. It covers Apple Originals included in the service, but it does not unlock everything that appears in the Apple TV app. The app also presents titles for separate rental or purchase and third-party subscription services, which require their own payment or subscription. Check the title’s offer or playback details before assuming it is included. Apple explains the distinction at tv.apple.com/us/login and tv.apple.com.

Examples promoted or listed on Apple’s pages when checked August 18, 2026, included Ted Lasso, Silo, The Morning Show, Slow Horses, Severance, Shrinking, Your Friends & Neighbors, Hijack, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, The Gorge, For All Mankind, Sugar, Cape Fear, Lucky, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed and Widow’s Bay. This is a dated selection, not a promise that every title remains available in every country or on the same schedule.
Ads, downloads and sports
Apple says its Apple Originals are commercial-free; that does not establish an ad-free experience for every third-party item, live event or promotion in the app. Apple also says subscribers can download Apple Originals to an Apple device for offline viewing; download support is not identical across web browsers, televisions and consoles. Both points are described on Apple’s Apple TV page.

Sports are especially dependent on country, season and schedule. Apple’s pages listed Friday Night Baseball, with two MLB matchups each Friday during the regular season, and U.S.-only Formula 1 coverage and Major League Soccer matches beginning in 2026. Check the current schedule and your region’s availability rather than assuming a particular game or race is included.

- Open the Apple TV app on a supported device or visit tv.apple.com.
- Sign in with the Apple Account you intend to use for viewing.
- Select the trial or subscription offer shown for that account. Apple’s pages have used wording such as “Get Apple TV free for 1 week” and “Accept Free Trial”; buttons may vary by device and eligibility.
- Before confirming, read the renewal date, recurring price and terms shown on screen. The U.S. page displayed $12.99 per month after seven days when checked August 18, 2026.
- After enrollment, check the subscription renewal date. If you do not want it to continue, use the subscription-management interface for your Apple Account to cancel before renewal, then confirm cancellation succeeded.
Set a calendar reminder and allow at least 24 hours before renewal as a practical buffer. Do not assume that canceling always preserves access until the final moment; the end date can depend on the offer and platform. Apple’s offer may not appear if the account has already used a trial, is subscribed, or does not meet the relevant eligibility rules.

Offers, prices and eligibility can change. The device offer depends on an eligible purchase and redemption deadline; student access depends on student-plan eligibility; and bundle or Apple One trials can lead to recurring charges. Review the terms on Apple’s Apple TV page and the offer displayed to your account. Apple’s U.S. sign-in page is the place to check the standalone trial.

An Apple TV 4K box is not required. Apple says the service is available through Apple devices, Android devices, smart TVs, streaming sticks and boxes, game consoles, Windows devices, some cable boxes, AirPlay-enabled televisions and web browsers at tv.apple.com. Availability and app features vary by device, so check that your particular television or streaming device supports the Apple TV app before planning to watch. Apple lists supported options at apple.com/apple-tv.

Before you sign up
- Confirm the offer appears after signing in; a trial is generally for eligible new subscribers, not every account.
- Check that the specific show or movie is included with Apple TV rather than offered as a rental, purchase or third-party channel.
- Read the renewal date and price on the confirmation screen, and set a reminder if you only want temporary access.
- Check device compatibility and regional availability, especially for sports.
- For any claimed free-weekend promotion, look for official terms giving its dates, eligible viewers and whether it requires a trial or subscription. The official U.S. pages reviewed August 18 did not confirm one for August 22–23, 2026.
