Short answer: The PlayStation promotion was real, but it is not a permanent benefit. The historical offer gave eligible PS4 users three months of Apple TV+ and eligible PS5 users up to six months. As of August 18, 2026, Apple’s public U.S. offer is a seven-day trial followed by $12.99 per month, not a standing PS4 or PS5 entitlement.
Apple now generally brands the service as Apple TV; “Apple TV+” is the name commonly used for the historical PlayStation promotion.

What the PS4 and PS5 promotions actually offered

These details come from contemporary PlayStation-community notices, not a current Sony entitlement. One documented PS5 promotion had a July 22, 2022 deadline (historical notice), while a later PS4/PS5 promotion ended July 31, 2023 (historical notice). The dates are useful because old articles and console tiles can make an expired promotion look live.
Is the PlayStation trial still available in 2026?
There is no current Apple page reviewed that lists a standing PS4 or PS5 trial in the United States. Apple’s current signup page advertises seven days free, then $12.99 per month: tv.apple.com/us. Apple also lists an Apple TV and Peacock bundle from $14.99 per month.

That does not prove that every regional or account-specific PlayStation offer has disappeared, but it means ownership alone is not evidence of eligibility. Do not buy a PS4 or PS5 expecting this promotion to appear.
How to check your console
Use these steps as a current verification process, not as a guaranteed redemption route. Apple and Sony can change menu names and layouts.

- Update the Apple TV app on your PS4 or PS5 if an update is available.
- Open the app and sign in with the Apple Account that will own the subscription.
- Look for a PlayStation promotion or subscription banner.
- Open the displayed terms and check the trial length, expiry date, country, subscriber restrictions and renewal price.
- Accept only after confirming the billing terms.
- Record the renewal date and set a reminder before the free period ends.
If no PlayStation banner appears and the app shows only the standard seven-day trial, the old console promotion is not being offered to that account. Your Apple Account has prior eligibility history
Apple says previous trials, subscriptions, family-sharing participation or an earlier redemption can affect promotional eligibility. Apple One membership can also matter.
PS4 and PS5 rules differed
Existing-subscriber treatment was promotion-specific. Historical reports indicated that some PS5 users with an active subscription or trial could qualify, while the PS4 version was more restrictive. Those reports should not be generalized to every Apple trial.

The console is used or the offer was already claimed
A used console does not guarantee a fresh entitlement. Historical notices also described one redemption per console in some campaigns. Do not assume that owning both consoles permits stacking the offers.

What Apple TV costs now
- Standard U.S. offer: seven days free, then $12.99 per month, according to Apple’s current signup page.
- Eligible Apple hardware: three months free when the offer applies and is redeemed within 90 days, as described at Apple’s Apple TV page.
- Apple TV and Peacock: bundles currently start at $14.99 per month on the signup page.
Do not apply today’s $12.99 price retroactively to the old PlayStation campaigns; regional prices and terms may have been different when those offers were redeemed.

Will the trial renew automatically?
Promotional trials generally convert to paid subscriptions unless cancelled. If you redeem a live offer, note the exact renewal date and cancel at least one day beforehand if you do not want to continue. Check the Apple Account’s subscription settings: viewing may happen on PlayStation, but billing is managed through Apple.
Can you watch Apple TV without a PlayStation?
Yes. PlayStation was a redemption channel, not a requirement for continued viewing. Apple lists support for PlayStation, Xbox, smart TVs, streaming devices, Android, Windows, web browsers and Apple devices at tv.apple.com/us. Sign in on another supported device with the same Apple Account after activation.
Should you buy a PS4 or PS5 for this offer?
No. The documented promotion is historical and not a reliable reason to purchase hardware. Buy a console only if you also want it for gaming or other features. For streaming alone, compare Apple’s direct subscription, an eligible Apple-device offer you already qualify for, or the Apple TV–Peacock bundle.

The Bottom Line
The PS4/PS5 Apple TV+ deal was genuine but temporary: three months for eligible PS4 users and generally six months for eligible PS5 users. It is not a current guaranteed benefit in 2026, so verify any banner in the Apple TV app before accepting—and never buy a console solely for this expired promotion.
