Apple Music has added delivery metadata that lets labels and distributors disclose when artificial intelligence created a material portion of a release. Apple says those disclosures will later appear to listeners as “Made With AI” labels, but the sources available as of September 27, 2026 do not confirm that the consumer-facing labels are live or give a launch date.
Two stages of Apple Music’s AI-label rollout
The change begins in the content-delivery workflow, not with a badge that every listener can already see. Apple introduced AI-transparency metadata for providers in March 2026. Its April 2026 Apple Music Specification 5.3.26 documents the relevant field for music-video singles.

On August 20, 2026, Apple told partners that it planned to show the tags to users as “Made With AI” labels later in the year. That is a planned rollout statement, not confirmation of a completed launch. Until Apple confirms availability, descriptions of the listener experience should be treated as expected rather than current.
| Stage | What happens | Status as of September 27, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Provider metadata | Labels and distributors attach AI-transparency declarations when delivering content to Apple. | Introduced in March 2026; implementation details appear in Apple Music Specification 5.3.26. |
| Listener display | Apple plans to turn applicable declarations into “Made With AI” labels in Apple Music. | Apple announced the plan on August 20, 2026; no reviewed source confirms an exact date or that the labels are live. |
What the tags cover
Apple’s framework separates four creative elements. A provider can apply more than one tag to the same release when AI materially contributed in several areas.

| Element | When disclosure applies | Where it can appear |
|---|---|---|
| Artwork | AI generated a material portion of album artwork, including static or motion-graphic artwork. | Release artwork. |
| Track | AI generated a material portion of the sound recording. | At track level. |
| Composition | AI generated a material portion of the composition embodied in the track, including lyrics or other compositional elements. | The composition associated with a track. |
| Music Video | AI generated a material portion of the video’s visual elements. | Videos bundled with albums and standalone videos; Apple’s specification gives the music-video value for music-video singles. |
The specification’s music-video field
Apple Music Specification 5.3.26 says that when artificial intelligence generates a material portion of content, the provider discloses it with the <ai_transparencies> tag. For a music video, the documented value is <ai_transparency>Music Video</ai_transparency>.
What Apple means by “AI-generated”
The trigger is a material portion of the relevant creative element, not necessarily any use of an automated feature. Apple also told partners that “AI-platform-generated content” means “anything that is primarily derived from a generative AI service.” That definition explicitly includes tracks generated primarily by an AI platform.

Apple leaves the determination to content providers, in the same general way providers supply other metadata such as genres and credits. The available description does not set a public percentage threshold for “material,” so providers must assess the contribution in context and select the applicable categories.
Who is responsible for reporting AI use?
Labels, distributors and other content providers delivering releases to Apple are responsible for supplying the declarations. Apple’s stated rationale is that these organizations know how their recordings, compositions, artwork and videos were made and which tags apply.

The described system is therefore provider disclosure rather than a claim that Apple independently detects every use of generative AI. A missing label cannot establish that a track was made without AI: an upstream provider might not have disclosed qualifying use, and the sources reviewed do not establish independent Apple verification of each declaration.
How to interpret a future “Made With AI” label
- It identifies a disclosed material contribution. The label can relate to the recording, composition, artwork, music-video visuals, or several of these.
- It does not necessarily mean every part was generated. Apple’s threshold concerns a material portion, while its separate definition covers content primarily derived from a generative AI service.
- It is not a quality or fraud rating. The metadata describes how content was created; it does not by itself assess artistic merit, copyright status, authenticity or stream legitimacy.
- No label is not proof of no AI. The process depends on declarations supplied upstream.
Why Apple is adding the metadata
The change gives platforms and listeners a clearer way to distinguish disclosed AI involvement across several parts of a release. It also creates a common delivery record before any consumer-facing presentation appears in the app. Because one release can have AI-assisted artwork but a human-made recording, or an AI-generated composition paired with other production, the four-part structure is more informative than a single undifferentiated “AI” flag.

Apple’s approach compared with detection systems
Apple’s described approach asks providers to declare qualifying use. Reporting on Deezer describes a different approach involving the service’s own detection work. These systems should not be treated as equivalent measurements: a provider declaration records what the distributor reports, while a detection system attempts to identify patterns itself, with different coverage and error risks.
For context, Music Business Worldwide reported Deezer figures in March 2026: more than 60,000 fully AI-generated tracks arriving daily, about 39% of Deezer’s daily music deliveries, and up to 85% of streams on AI-generated music reported as fraudulent in 2025. Those are Deezer-reported figures, not Apple Music measurements and not evidence about Apple Music listening.

- March 4, 2026: Apple introduced the AI-transparency metadata framework for deliveries. Reports said providers could apply tags immediately and that they would be required for new deliveries in the future.
- April 2026: Apple Music Specification 5.3.26 documented the AI-transparency field for music-video singles.
- August 20, 2026: Apple told partners that the tags would later be visible to listeners as “Made With AI” labels and reiterated the material-portion threshold.
- September 27, 2026: No reviewed source established a consumer rollout date or confirmed that the labels were live.
What listeners should watch for
When Apple activates the user-facing display, the useful question will be which creative element the disclosure covers, not simply whether a release has an AI label. A track-level recording tag conveys something different from an artwork tag, and a composition tag may concern lyrics or other written musical material rather than the recorded performance.
The most reliable interpretation will still depend on the provider’s declaration and the scope Apple shows alongside the label. Until Apple publishes a live consumer implementation and any accompanying user guidance, readers should regard “Made With AI” as an announced labeling system rather than an established guarantee about every release.
