Apple Music marked its 10th anniversary in June 2025 by announcing a three-story, more-than-15,000-square-foot creative hub in Culver City, California. The facility brings radio, live-performance video, photography, editing and Spatial Audio work under one roof. It is an Apple-operated production and artist-relations center—not a public recording studio with a disclosed rental or walk-in process.
A physical studio for a streaming service
Apple announced the Los Angeles facility on June 30, 2025, as part of Apple Music’s 10th-anniversary plans. The company described it as a global hub for artists and said it was intended to support creative work and strengthen connections between artists and fans. Apple’s initial announcement said it would open “this summer,” but did not give a precise opening date, publish a booking policy, or disclose construction and operating costs. In January 2026, Apple said the studio had opened during what it characterized as a record year for its services; that statement confirms the opening, but does not show that the facility caused Apple Music’s performance.

The distinction matters. This is not an announced public rental studio or a new service where any artist can reserve a room. Apple has not published open-access rules, an application process, or a promise that every Apple Music artist will use it. Its stated purpose is to give Apple Music a dedicated place to make programming and promotional material with artists.

What Apple built in Culver City
Apple says the three-story facility covers more than 15,000 square feet. Its listed features include:

The 9.2.4 designation describes a particular speaker-channel layout in the mixing room; it is not simply a synonym for generic surround sound. The room’s presence also does not mean every Spatial Audio track on Apple Music is mixed there. Apple has described a facility capable of supporting such work, not the proportion of its catalog produced in it.
What could happen there?
The rooms point to a practical, multi-format workflow. An artist visiting for a radio conversation could also record a performance, shoot video, make social clips, take promotional photographs or sit for an interview. The soundstage can support larger, multicamera productions and audience-facing events; the private booths suit more contained conversations, podcasting or songwriting. The dedicated listening and mixing spaces give Apple a place to present and work on immersive audio.
That ability to combine projects is a reasonable reading of the facility’s design, not a published promise about how Apple will schedule it. Apple has not announced production quotas, a list of planned shows, or how often artists will be invited. Nor does use of the hub itself guarantee playlist placement, editorial coverage, marketing spend or additional compensation.

Why Culver City?
Apple has not said the site was chosen for a particular property, labor-cost or production-industry calculation. The straightforward strategic case is proximity: Los Angeles is a major center for music, management, publicity and film and video production. A dedicated base in Culver City can make it easier to coordinate recording, interviews, radio, visuals and artist visits with people already working in the region.
Apple said the Los Angeles location would anchor a wider network of creative hubs already active in New York, Tokyo, Berlin, Paris and Nashville, with additional studios to come. The company did not publish a full facility directory, staffing figures, capacity estimates or an expansion timetable. “Global hub” is Apple’s framing for its network, not evidence of a public campus or a consistent access policy in every city.
Radio and programming are central to the plan
Apple Music has used artist interviews, premieres, specials and other radio programming to distinguish its service from a catalog alone. The new studios give Apple Music Radio a dedicated physical production base for that work. Apple says its radio streams run 24 hours a day and are available globally for free, though availability and programming can differ by market.

The anniversary itself brought a concentrated run of radio and listening features. On June 30, 2025, Zane Lowe and Ebro Darden hosted a special, including an eight-hour “10 Years of Apple Music” broadcast. Apple also presented a countdown of the service’s 500 most-streamed songs over the preceding decade, a “10 Years of Apple Music: Top Songs” playlist and “Replay All Time,” which showed listeners the songs they had played most since joining. These were anniversary offerings; their appearance in the event announcement should not be read as a guarantee that every feature remains available as a permanent product.

Why invest in a physical artist hub?
Streaming platforms offer large catalogs, so competition is also about discovery, curation, distinctive programming and relationships with artists. A controlled production space can help Apple create polished audio and video on its own terms, while making it possible to develop several kinds of material around an artist visit. It also gives Apple Music Radio and Apple’s artist-facing editorial identity a visible home.
That is a strategic interpretation of the investment, not a measured outcome. The facility could help Apple build richer artist stories and more recognizable programming. Its usefulness to listeners will depend on what Apple actually produces and whether that content feels distinctive enough to matter. The announcement does not promise that studio projects will appear across Apple TV, AirPods, CarPlay or every other Apple surface.

The move also sits within a competitive landscape in which platforms emphasize different strengths: Apple highlights editorial programming, radio and premium-audio experiences; Spotify is associated with discovery and personalization; YouTube with video reach and creator distribution; and Amazon Music with links to Amazon’s subscription and device ecosystem. Those are broad strategic categories, not a comparison of current market share, pricing or artist compensation.

For artists selected to work there, the hub could offer a professional environment near Los Angeles’s entertainment ecosystem and a convenient way to make radio, interview, live-session, photographic and social assets. Its Spatial Audio facilities may also be useful for playback and mixing work. A dedicated venue can make an Apple Music campaign feel more like a creative collaboration than a remote interview or conventional press stop.
The limits are just as important. Apple has not said whether independent and emerging artists have equal access to the facility, how invitations are decided, or whether projects are available outside specific programming and promotional relationships. Access may depend on Apple Music editorial or artist-relations plans, labels, management or a particular production; without a published policy, that remains an inference. The studio does not change royalty terms or playlist algorithms by itself, and Apple has not claimed that it does.

The test is what the studio produces
A large facility is an input, not proof of impact. The useful test is whether Apple turns it into compelling radio, performance films, interviews, fan experiences and immersive-audio work—and whether the opportunity reaches artists beyond the most prominent names. Apple’s January 2026 note confirms that the facility opened, but offers no independent measures of its output, artist traffic or effect on subscriber growth.
For Apple Music, the hub signals an effort to be more than a place to stream songs: it is also a production partner with a physical presence. Whether that becomes a meaningful advantage for artists and listeners will depend less on the square footage than on the programming and access Apple builds around it.
