Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The right fix depends on what is failing: installation, app startup, sign-in, library syncing, playback, or sound output. Start by checking Apple’s System Status page and testing music.apple.com. Then work through the least disruptive fix that matches your symptom.
First, identify the problem
- It will not install or update: troubleshoot Microsoft Store.
- It opens and immediately closes: repair or reset the app.
- It will not sign in: check the Apple Account, network, VPN, and subscription.
- The library is empty: verify the account and enable Sync Library.
- Songs will not play: check service status, subscription, authorization, and the affected tracks.
- Playback moves but there is no sound: check Windows’ output device and volume mixer.
- Only high-quality playback crackles or stutters: test standard quality and a wired output.
1. Check Apple’s service status and the web player
Before resetting anything, visit Apple’s live System Status page. Apple Music, subscriptions, radio, and related services may be listed separately. If Apple reports an outage, resetting Windows apps will not repair it.
Next, sign in at music.apple.com. If the web player also fails, the likely cause is an Apple Account, subscription, network, or service problem. If the web player works while the Windows app does not, focus on the app, Microsoft Store, or Windows installation.
2. Restart Windows and update Apple Music
- Close Apple Music completely.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Open the Store’s library or updates section.
- Install available updates for Apple Music and related Apple apps.
Apple distributes Apple Music, Apple TV, and Apple Devices through Microsoft Store. The current Windows lineup is separate: Apple Music is for music, Apple TV is for video, and Apple Devices manages iPhone and iPad updates, backups, and restores. Apple still identifies iTunes as a fallback for podcasts, audiobooks, or PCs that do not meet the newer apps’ requirements. Availability and features can vary by country or region; see Apple’s Windows app guide.

3. Repair or reset Apple Music
On Windows 11, open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Find Apple Music, select its three-dot menu, and choose Advanced options.
- Select Terminate if the app is still running.
- Select Repair, then reopen Apple Music.
- If the problem remains, return to the same screen and select Reset.
Repair is the less disruptive option. Reset can clear app data, remove local preferences, and require you to sign in again. It does not solve an Apple service outage, an expired subscription, a wrong account, a Store restriction, or a Windows audio-routing problem. Windows labels can differ slightly between Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft documents these recovery options in its app repair guidance.
4. Fix Microsoft Store installation or update failures
If the Get button does nothing, Apple Music will not update, or reinstalling fails, reset the Microsoft Store cache:

- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
wsreset.exe. - Press Enter.
- Wait for the process to finish and Microsoft Store to reopen.
- Search for Apple Music and try again.
This resets Store cache data; it is not an Apple Music-specific repair and is not guaranteed to fix every download problem. Also check for a pending Windows restart, Windows updates, and restrictions on work or school PCs. VPNs, proxies, firewalls, and security software can block Store endpoints. For additional cases, see Microsoft’s Microsoft Store download troubleshooting.

- Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Apple Music and select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Microsoft Store and search for Apple Music.
- Select Get and install it again.
- Sign in with the Apple Account associated with your subscription and library.
Apple’s official installation path is Microsoft Store; its instructions are available in the Apple Music User Guide. Reinstallation will not fix an outage, account mismatch, authorization limit, network policy, unsupported PC, or incorrect Windows audio output.
6. Fix sign-in, subscription, and authorization problems
In Apple Music, choose Sign In at the bottom of the sidebar. Confirm that you are using the same Apple Account that owns the subscription or purchased music. Apple’s Windows sign-in instructions explain the account workflow.

For testing, temporarily disable a VPN or proxy, check Windows’ date, time, and time zone, and try another permitted network such as a phone hotspot. Sign out and back in after repairing or resetting the app. Do not repeatedly change your password unless Apple reports an account-security issue.
Streaming access and purchased music are different. If only purchased tracks fail, the computer may need authorization. In Apple Music or Apple TV, select your account name at the bottom of the sidebar, choose Authorize Machine or Deauthorize Machine, then sign in. Apple allows up to five authorized computers for Apple Account purchases; this is not the same as every Apple Music streaming-device limit. See Apple’s authorization guidance.
7. Restore a missing or incomplete library
- Confirm that the correct Apple Account is signed in.
- Open Apple Music and select the sidebar actions button.
- Choose Settings > General.
- Turn on Sync Library.
- Leave the app open while synchronization completes.
Sync Library requires an Apple Music subscription and the same Apple Account across devices. It is not a backup service. Imported or locally stored music should be copied to a separate backup. Apple’s requirements and instructions are in its Sync Library guide.

8. Fix playback with no sound
If the progress bar moves but you hear nothing, the app may be working while Windows sends audio to the wrong device. Check:
- Apple Music’s own volume control.
- Windows master volume and the selected output device.
- The per-app volume mixer.
- Powered speakers, cables, headphones, and Bluetooth connections.
- Whether sound is being routed to a monitor, dock, or inactive Bluetooth device.
- Whether another program has exclusive control of the output device.
Try the built-in speakers or a different wired output. On Windows 11, use the Get Help audio troubleshooter. Microsoft also provides guidance for missing output devices, Bluetooth audio, distorted sound, and driver problems in its Windows audio troubleshooting guide.

If crackling or stuttering began after enabling high-quality audio, switch temporarily to standard quality. Test with a wired connection and a simpler output such as built-in speakers. Check the audio driver and selected sample rate, then retry the download of any problematic offline track.

Audio switches automatically to whichever device needs you — so a call never interrupts your flow, and getting back to your playlist is just as easy. Designed for commuters and remote workers who move smoothly between work and personal listening throughout the day.
- Your Sound, Your Rules: The soundcore app puts everything at your fingertips — dials your ideal EQ with presets or build your own, flip between ANC, Normal, and Transparency modes on the fly, or wind down with built-in white noise. One app, total control.
Apple says Apple Music for Windows supports Lossless up to 24-bit/48 kHz and Hi-Res Lossless up to 24-bit/192 kHz. An external DAC may be required above 48 kHz. Hardware and connection limitations still apply, and Bluetooth should not be assumed to provide bit-perfect lossless playback. See Apple’s audio-quality guidance.
10. Windows 10 compatibility and app choices
Apple’s current support material describes its dedicated Windows apps for Windows 10 and later, but individual builds and devices may differ. Microsoft ended normal Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. That does not automatically mean Apple Music cannot run on Windows 10, but Store and compatibility problems may become more likely over time. Do not upgrade Windows as the first troubleshooting step; check eligibility and back up important files before any operating-system upgrade.
Use the current apps for their intended roles: Apple Music for music, Apple TV for video, and Apple Devices for iPhone and iPad management. Use iTunes for Windows when you need podcasts or audiobooks, or when the newer apps’ requirements are not met. iTunes is a workflow fallback, not a guaranteed replacement for every Apple Music feature.

When to contact support
Contact Apple Support for account, subscription, catalog, library, authorization, or persistent Apple Music playback problems. Contact Microsoft for Store installation failures, Windows account or policy restrictions, Store cache issues, device compatibility, and Windows audio problems. If the web player works but the app does not, tell support that distinction—it helps isolate the fault.
