Apple launched its personalized 2025 Apple Books Year in Review on December 3, 2025. The seasonal recap summarizes reading activity recorded in Apple Books, including completed books, favorite genres, most-read authors, and month-by-month activity. Apple also published separate editorial lists of its Best Books of 2025 and Best Audiobooks of 2025.
The recap is useful as an Apple Books reading log, but it is not an automatic record of every book you read through Kindle, Libby, Kobo, another audiobook app, or on paper.

Apple’s original 2023 announcement described additional possible categories, including total reading time, longest book and audiobook, completed series, highest-rated book, Reading Goal statistics, reading streaks, average minutes per month, a personalized reading type, and a grid of finished book covers. Those details belong to Apple’s original documented experience and should not automatically be treated as confirmed features of the 2025 recap.
The feature is a seasonal layer inside the existing Apple Books app, not a new app or subscription service.
How to find your 2025 recap
- Open the Books app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Select the Home tab.
- Look for the prominently featured 2025 Year in Review card or section.
- Open it and move through the statistics screens.
- Use the share control, if available, to save the visual summary or send it through an installed app.
Sharing options depend on your operating system and installed apps; reported options include saving an image and sending it through Messages, WhatsApp, Instagram, or X.
Apple placed the original 2023 experience in the Read Now tab under Top Picks. The 2025 reports identify Home as the location, so the changing labels likely reflect updates to Books navigation rather than contradictory instructions.

Why the Year in Review card may be missing
The 2025 recap was launched as a year-end experience, so it may no longer be prominently promoted after the campaign period. Continued access in August 2026 is not established by the available launch reporting.
Other possible explanations include:
- Your country or region may not be supported.
- Your device or operating system may not meet the relevant requirements.
- Too few titles may be marked as finished.
- You may be checking an older tab name such as Read Now rather than Home.
- Books activity may not have synced correctly across devices.
For the original 2023 rollout, Apple specified an iPhone or iPad running iOS 17.1 or iPadOS 17.1 or later, availability in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and at least three titles marked as finished. Apple’s 2025 launch coverage does not independently confirm that every one of those rules remained unchanged.
How Apple Books counts books read elsewhere
Apple’s documented workaround is to search for a title in Apple Books and choose Mark as Finished. You can also edit the finished date. This lets Apple Books act as a reading log for a physical book or a title read through another service, provided the title is available in the Apple Books catalog.
Kindle, Libby, Kobo, paper books, and other audiobook apps are not necessarily tracked automatically by Apple Books. Marking a title finished manually records the completion, but it should not be assumed to recreate reading time, listening duration, reading streaks, or other behavioral details from the original service.

A title purchased from Apple is also not guaranteed to appear in the personal recap unless its relevant activity or finished status is recorded by Books.
Personal recap versus Apple’s Best Books lists
These are separate features:
- Year in Review: answers “What did I read?” using your Apple Books activity.
- Best Books and Best Audiobooks: answer “What does Apple recommend?” through editorial selections.
- Apple Books charts: show storefront rankings and are separate from both your personal history and Apple’s editorial picks. See the book charts and audiobook charts.
Apple’s selections are curated recommendations, not a neutral industry ranking or a list of the year’s best-selling or most-listened-to titles.

Apple Books works well for readers who buy ebooks or audiobooks through Apple and want a simple visual summary. Apple also supports reading progress and Reading Goals, and its original Year in Review experience included goal and streak information.

Its main limitation is fragmented reading history. Readers who divide their time among Apple Books, Kindle, Libby, physical books, and several audiobook services may need to mark titles manually or use a separate cross-platform reading tracker.
Apple Books is also primarily a purchase-based storefront. Apple describes it as offering books and audiobooks with no subscription or monthly commitment; individual prices vary by title, edition, country, and publisher. It should not be assumed to operate like an all-you-can-read service.
Bottom line
Apple Books’ 2025 Year in Review is a useful visual recap for people whose reading activity is already recorded in Apple Books. It shows completed books, genres, authors, and monthly activity, while manual completion marking can help include physical or third-party reading. It is not a universal reading-history database, and the 2025 card may no longer be available or prominent outside the year-end campaign.
