By the official Anpanman 30th-anniversary popularity poll, Anpanman ranked first. The ten characters below follow that poll’s historical order—not a new 2026 survey or a definitive judgment of who is best. It is the clearest attributable ranking available, and a useful starting point for exploring a cast that has grown since the picture books began in 1973.
How this ranking works
“Best” can mean a favorite, a memorable character, or an important part of the story. Rather than present a personal ranking as fact, this list preserves the order on the official Anpanman Portal Site’s 30th-anniversary popularity poll. The portal names the top ten; it gives vote totals for the first five: Anpanman, 1,995 for Baikinman, 1,804 for Kokin-chan, 1,225 for Dokin-chan, and 542 for Akachanman. Those figures and placements belong to that historical event, whose exact voting dates are not established here. See the official poll results.
The 10 best Anpanman characters, ranked
-
Anpanman
The poll’s winner and the franchise’s central hero. Anpanman also belongs to the first group of characters listed in the official history as appearing in the anime’s first episode, when the television series began in 1988. His first appearance in the picture book “Anpanman” came earlier, in 1973. The official history places both milestones in the franchise’s timeline.
-
Baikinman
Second in the historical poll, with 1,995 votes. Baikinman was among the characters in the first TV-anime episode, according to the official history. His high poll placement makes him the leading choice among the listed characters after Anpanman in that event.

Why the poll is useful—and what it cannot tell you
The result offers a documented fan-vote order for one anniversary event. It answers “Who won that poll?”—Anpanman—and identifies its top ten. It does not establish who is most popular now, explain why voters chose each character, or settle which characters are best by story importance or personal taste. The official portal was still publishing updates in 2026, so the franchise should not be treated as a fixed cast or a static catalog. Visit the official Anpanman portal.
Where to learn about more characters
The official portal’s Q&A points readers to the “Anpanman Encyclopedia: Official Character Book” (アンパンマン大図鑑 公式キャラクターブック) and its character-introduction section as ways to explore the wider cast. The available reference does not establish a current edition, language, stock, or marketplace listing, so check the portal for the reference rather than assuming a particular version is available. Consult the portal’s Q&A.
