IFC describes the film as examining Talley’s personal and professional challenges and achievements through interviews—including with Anna Wintour, Tom Ford and Diane von Furstenberg—and previously unseen footage. SCAD emphasizes his impact on representation in fashion and on ideas about beauty and identity. Those are the institutions’ descriptions of the film’s approach.
SCAD situates Talley’s career across his Southern roots in North Carolina, his work with Diana Vreeland at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, the Andy Warhol Factory and his later work at Vogue alongside Anna Wintour. SCAD also notes his mentorship of students, role in establishing its fashion exhibitions program, museum curation and bequest of garments, accessories, photographs and ephemera to the SCAD Permanent Collection. Where can you stream Style Is Forever?
SCAD says the film will be available to stream online beginning in October 2026, following its theatrical release at New York’s IFC Center. The SCAD page does not name a streaming platform or give an exact day, so a service and specific release date have not been established there.
Is this the same film as The Gospel According to André?
No. The Gospel According to André is a separate, earlier documentary directed by Kate Novack and produced by Andrew Rossi. Magnolia Pictures describes it as a portrait of Talley’s life, from the segregated Jim Crow South through his work at Women’s Wear Daily, W and Vogue, told with archival footage and commentary from fashion figures. The new film, André Leon Talley: Style Is Forever, is the 2026 documentary co-directed by Haskell and Stafford; the earlier film is Novack’s project. Their overlapping subject is Talley, not a shared title or production.

SCAD’s 2025 exhibition, also titled André Leon Talley: Style Is Forever, was memorialized in a scholarly catalogue. It is an exhibition publication, not established as a companion to the 2026 documentary. SCAD also says the exhibition is planned to tour the United States in 2027, but its page does not provide dates or locations.
