During American Idol Season 23’s Showstopper Week in 2025, East Los Angeles singer Mikey Jimenez, known as MKY, performed Luis Miguel’s “Sabor a Mí” entirely in Spanish. Coverage described an enthusiastic response, while judge Carrie Underwood called the selection a “bold song choice.” Those reports capture a notable televised moment, but they do not establish how all viewers reacted or provide an audience measurement.
What MKY performed on American Idol
MKY chose “Sabor a Mí,” the Spanish-language standard identified in contemporary coverage with Luis Miguel, for Season 23’s Showstopper Week. His performance was entirely in Spanish. American Songwriter’s April 2025 account identifies him as Mikey Jimenez, a 25-year-old Mexican-American singer from East Los Angeles; Parade also described him as 25 and from East Los Angeles in its preview of the episode.
The performance stood out not only for its language but also for its guitar work. TV Insider reported that the judges commented on his playing, although its account is not a full transcript of their remarks.
Why singing in Spanish mattered to him
MKY connected the opportunity to his family and cultural roots. In a statement quoted by American Songwriter, he said, “It means a lot to me to be able to sing in Spanish on American Idol. I’ve waited my whole life for this opportunity.” The same article attributed to him the words, “Music is definitely in my blood, it’s in my DNA.” These are his explanations of what the performance meant to him, rather than independently established details about his family history.

What the judges and audience reportedly did
TV Insider reported that Carrie Underwood called MKY’s selection a “bold song choice” and that the judges commented on his guitar work. Separate coverage characterized the audience response and online reactions as enthusiastic. Those descriptions are not a representative survey: the available reports do not provide viewership figures, voting totals, or a measure showing how broadly fans shared that reaction.
Where the performance fit in Season 23
MKY’s “Sabor a Mí” appearance took place during Showstopper Week in 2025, not in a new episode. TV Line’s Season 23 results coverage lists MKY among the Top 24, placing the performance within the season’s competition. The cited coverage does not establish his subsequent career status.
