“Included with Prime” does not mean that every title displayed in the Prime Video app is free to watch. The service also presents rentals, purchases, pay-per-view content, add-on channels, and free ad-supported programming. Look for the title’s label before pressing play: a Prime badge generally indicates inclusion, while a rental or purchase price indicates an additional charge.
Is there a Prime Video-only subscription?

Why do some titles cost extra?

A rental generally remains in your video library for 30 days. Once playback begins, you generally have at least 48 hours to finish it, although a particular title may provide a longer viewing window. A purchased title can become unavailable in some circumstances.

Where can you watch Prime Video?
Amazon’s supported-device list covers many categories, including Amazon devices, smart TVs, Blu-ray players, game consoles, mobile devices, computers, and set-top boxes or media players. Support is model-specific, so a device category being supported does not mean that every model or software version works.
Smart TV
- Open your television’s app store.
- Search for Prime Video.
- Install or open the app if it is available for your model.
- Sign in with the Amazon account associated with your subscription or purchase.
If Prime Video is not available in the TV’s app store, check the exact model on Amazon’s supported-device information or use a compatible external streaming player.
Fire TV, Chromecast, and other streaming players
Prime Video is available on supported Amazon Fire TV equipment and other compatible set-top boxes and media players. If your television lacks a convenient Prime Video app, an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K can be one possible dedicated-device route, but check the current model’s compatibility, television requirements, and availability before buying.

Game console or Blu-ray player
Open the console or player’s app store, search for Prime Video, and install the app if your specific model supports it. Sign in using the on-screen instructions. Older hardware may not support the current app even if another model from the same product family does.
Phone or tablet
Install the current Prime Video app for your mobile platform, sign in, and choose a title. A phone or tablet can also act as the controller when casting to a compatible Fire TV, Chromecast, Android TV, or Echo Show 15 device.
Computer
Use the Prime Video website in a compatible browser and sign in to Amazon. Keep the browser, operating system, and Prime Video software current. If playback fails in one browser, testing another supported browser can help distinguish a browser problem from an account, network, or title-availability issue.

How to cast Prime Video from a phone to a TV
Prime Video casting requires a compatible receiving device. It is not the same as promising universal AirPlay, screen mirroring, or support for every smart TV.
- Turn on the TV or receiving device. Open the input or app needed for casting if the device requires it.
- Put both devices on the same Wi-Fi network. Your phone and the TV, Chromecast, Android TV device, or Fire TV should use the same network.
- Allow local-network access on iPhone or iPad when needed. For casting to Chromecast or Android TV, open iOS Settings and enable Prime Video’s Local Network permission.
- Open the latest Prime Video mobile app. Sign in to the account that has the relevant subscription, rental, or purchase.
- Tap the Cast icon. Amazon places it in the upper-right area of the app.
- Select the receiving device. Choose the compatible Chromecast/Android TV, Fire TV, or Echo Show 15 device shown by the app.
- Wait for “Ready to Cast.” Once the receiving device is ready, select a title and control playback from the phone.
For Fire TV, Amazon says the mobile app and Fire TV should be signed in to the same Amazon account. If a receiving device does not respond to the Fire TV procedure, casting may not be supported through that device or configuration. Use the device’s own Prime Video app when available instead of relying on screen mirroring.
Prime Video casting and playback troubleshooting
Work through these checks in order. The cause is often a network, account, software, or compatibility mismatch rather than the subscription itself.
- Check the Wi-Fi connection. Confirm that the phone and receiving device are on the same Wi-Fi network. Guest networks, mesh-network isolation, and multiple routers can make devices appear to be on the same internet connection while preventing them from discovering one another.
- Update everything. Update the Prime Video app, TV or streaming-player software, phone operating system, browser, and—where relevant—the television firmware.
- Verify the Amazon account. This is especially important with Fire TV. The phone and Fire TV may be signed in to different Amazon accounts, or the account may not contain the rental, purchase, or channel subscription you are trying to use.
- Restart the equipment. Close and reopen Prime Video, restart the phone and receiving device, and restart the router if the network connection is unstable.
- Disable VPNs and proxies. Amazon lists VPN or proxy use as a possible playback problem. Do not use one to bypass geographic restrictions; Amazon’s terms address location requirements, and changing apparent location can make playback or availability less reliable.
- Check the HDMI path. For an external player, the display and connection must meet the relevant HDCP requirement: Amazon specifies HDCP 1.4 for HD and HDCP 2.2 for UHD and/or HDR. If an older cable, adapter, receiver, or television is in the chain, test a direct connection. A compatible High-Speed HDMI cable may help when the cable is the limiting component, but it will not fix account, Wi-Fi, app, or licensing problems.
- Reduce network congestion. Pause large downloads, cloud backups, game updates, or other high-bandwidth activity and test playback again.
- Check simultaneous playback. Amazon’s troubleshooting guidance says the same title can be streamed on only two devices at a time. Stop playback on unused devices before trying again.
- Reinstall the app. If updates and restarts do not help, remove and reinstall Prime Video on the affected device, then sign in again.
If only one title fails while other titles play normally, check whether it is a rental that expired, a title restricted in your location, a channel title requiring a separate subscription, or content temporarily affected by licensing. If every title fails across multiple devices, focus first on the account, network, service status, and app version.

Prime Video’s catalog is not identical worldwide. Movies and shows can have different availability, subtitles, dubs, audio tracks, delivery methods, and release dates depending on location. Rights holders and technical restrictions can also change what is offered over time. A title available in one U.S. account or city is not evidence that it is available in another country.

For the same reason, do not treat a search result, an old watchlist entry, or a past purchase as a permanent guarantee of access. Check the title page while signed in to the account and location where you plan to watch it.

Amazon distinguishes between canceling a Prime Video-only subscription and canceling the full Amazon Prime membership. Use the account that originally started the subscription and review the exact confirmation screen before completing the change.
- For a Prime Video-only subscription, open Amazon’s membership or subscription-management area and select the Prime Video subscription. Follow the cancellation prompts and confirm the end date.
- For full Amazon Prime, manage the Amazon Prime membership instead. Canceling Prime affects the broader Prime bundle, not just video access.
- For an add-on channel, manage that channel subscription separately; canceling an add-on does not necessarily cancel Amazon Prime.
- For a rental or purchase, cancellation rules are different from subscription cancellation. Check the transaction and title-specific terms rather than assuming that ending Prime reverses a rental or purchase.
Before confirming, note whether Amazon says access ends immediately or at the end of the current billing period, and save the confirmation email or screen. Subscription pricing, trial terms, and cancellation labels can change, so the account’s current instructions take priority.
Is Prime Video worth paying for?
Prime Video is most straightforward for someone who already wants the broader Amazon Prime membership and will use its other benefits. It can also make sense for a viewer who wants a particular included series, movie, live event, or add-on channel and accepts that the catalog changes.
It is less predictable as a single fixed-price movie library. Budget for possible rentals, purchases, channel subscriptions, and the separate Ad Free upgrade. Before subscribing, search for the specific documentaries, series, or films you intend to watch and check whether each is included, ad-supported, rented, purchased, or locked behind an add-on channel.
