Amazon’s Comixology-to-Kindle change is complete: the standalone Comixology app was retired on December 4, 2023, and Amazon moved reading access to the Kindle app and Kindle for Web. The announcement was real, but it did not mean Amazon deleted customers’ purchases or that every Kindle e-reader automatically received a comics library.
If comics are missing, first check that you are using the Amazon account associated with your purchases. People with older Comixology logins may also have needed to connect that account to Amazon.
What Amazon changed—and when
Amazon announced the transition on November 14, 2023. On December 4, 2023, it ended use of the standalone Comixology app on iOS, Android, and Fire OS. Purchased comics, graphic novels, and manga were intended to remain available through Kindle apps and Kindle for Web. GeekWire reported the announcement and date; Amazon’s user announcement specified the platforms and the transition.

“Merge” describes the reading-app and ecosystem change, not a new corporate acquisition in 2023. Amazon had announced an agreement to acquire Comixology in 2014, saying the comics platform would continue operating within Amazon. Amazon’s acquisition announcement provides that earlier context.

How to find a Comixology library in Kindle
Amazon says customers who already used their Amazon login for Comixology did not need a separate account merge. People with an older Comixology login could connect it to the Amazon account associated with their purchases. Check the account carefully before linking: choosing the wrong Amazon account can leave the expected library missing or require support to correct the association.
- In Comixology settings, select Connect your account.
- Sign in with the older Comixology credentials and connect the Amazon account that should contain the purchases.
- Open the Kindle app using that Amazon account, then refresh or sync the library.
- If you have a large library, allow time for it to populate; Amazon says this can take several hours.
These are Amazon’s account-linking instructions. If the accounts were linked incorrectly or titles remain absent after syncing, contact Amazon support with the relevant account email addresses and examples of purchased titles. Where you can read the comics now
Amazon’s stated access points include the Kindle apps, Kindle for Web, and Kindle for Mac where supported. The key distinction is between reading in the Kindle app on a phone, tablet, or computer and sending a book to a physical Kindle e-reader.

Purchased titles are intended to be accessible through the Kindle ecosystem. A title appearing in the library does not mean it is stored on the device: download it in the Kindle app if you need offline access. Amazon’s Kindle access instructions describe the supported routes.

Physical Kindle e-readers
Comixology purchases do not automatically appear on Kindle e-readers by default. To send a title, use Your Content and Devices, select the book, and deliver it to a registered device. Amazon recommends sending fewer than 25 Comixology books at a time because of device-memory limits. A comics library being available in Kindle apps therefore does not guarantee that it will be practical to read on every e-reader; device display and navigation also vary.
What features carried over—and what did not
Amazon said the Kindle experience would include grouping issues, volumes, and omnibuses from the same series; a Comics & Manga library filter; and controls to hide or unhide selected titles. It also said eligible comics from Comixology Unlimited, Kindle Unlimited, and Prime Reading could be accessed through Kindle-related experiences, subject to subscription and marketplace availability. These features are described in Amazon’s announcement.

That does not establish that every aspect of the old Comixology app was reproduced on every device. Contemporary coverage reported reader complaints about moving to Kindle and browser-based alternatives, including concerns about how comics were organized and read. Engadget covered those reactions; they should be understood as reported user dissatisfaction, not a measure of every reader’s experience.
Guided View—the panel-by-panel reading mode—was reported as available in Kindle for Web during the transition. The available reporting does not establish identical Guided View behavior across every Kindle app version, title, format, and physical e-reader. What happened to Comixology Unlimited and borrowed titles?
Retiring the standalone app did not itself end Comixology Unlimited. Amazon said eligible subscribers could continue to access borrowable comics, graphic novels, manga, and Comixology Originals through Kindle-related experiences. Catalogs and eligibility depend on marketplace and subscription status and may change.
A borrowed subscription title is not the same as a purchased book. Borrowing depends on an active, eligible subscription and whether the title remains in that catalog; a separately purchased copy remains tied to the customer’s account. Do not treat access through a subscription as permanent ownership.
Troubleshoot missing or inaccessible comics
The Kindle library looks empty
- Check that you are signed into the Amazon account used for the Comixology purchases. Consider whether purchases were made under a family member’s account or a different Amazon marketplace.
- If you used an older Comixology login, confirm that it was connected to the intended Amazon account.
- Refresh or sync the Kindle library. For a large library, allow several hours for titles to appear.
- If the purchases are still missing, contact Amazon support with account details and examples of titles you bought.
The book appears, but will not open offline
Library visibility and a downloaded copy are separate. Download the book in the Kindle app; earlier Comixology downloads may not be present on the new device or app.

The book is missing from a Kindle e-reader
Manual delivery is expected for Comixology purchases. Use Your Content and Devices to send titles to a registered e-reader, following Amazon’s batch guidance above.
