Alo’s mixed-reality wellness app, Alo Moves XR, puts prerecorded 3D instructors into a user’s room for short yoga, Pilates, meditation and mindfulness sessions. Meta announced it on May 30, 2024, and it became available on October 10, 2024—not as a new 2026 launch. It was originally presented for Quest 3; later listings report support for other Quest headsets, so check the live Meta Horizon Store before buying or downloading.
What Alo launched
The names can be easy to mix up. Alo Yoga is the wellness and apparel brand; Alo Moves was its digital class platform. The Quest app is called Alo Moves XR. Alo’s broader digital offering may also appear under the name ALO Wellness Club, so its mobile or web subscription should not automatically be assumed to be the same plan as the Quest app.
Meta announced the Quest experience on May 30, 2024, describing an app built around spatial instructors and mixed reality. Launch coverage reported that it became available on October 10, 2024, following development with Magnopus and Meta. Meta’s announcement and UploadVR’s launch report provide the dated details.

How volumetric classes work
Volumetric capture records a person’s body and movement as three-dimensional visual data, rather than as a flat video image. In the headset, the captured instructor appears to occupy space in the room. A user can move around the instructor to see a pose from another angle, or reposition a smaller “mini-instructor” to keep the demonstration visible while exercising.
These are prerecorded captured instructors—not live teachers, AI-generated coaches or two-way video calls. The spatial presentation can make a movement easier to inspect, but the instructor does not watch the user or correct their form.
In mixed-reality modes, Quest passthrough lets users see their physical room while virtual content is placed into it. The app also describes environmental portals that open onto nature-inspired settings, such as mountain views or waterfalls. Some experiences may feel more like a virtual setting, so the amount of the real room visible depends on the mode. Passthrough is not the same as unobstructed natural vision.

Classes, instructors and session lengths
At announcement, Alo named instructors Ashley Galvin, Annie Landa, Bianca Wise, Kirat Randhawa and Susy Markoe Schieffelin. The launch description covered yoga, Pilates, meditation, mindfulness and sound baths, with sessions described as lasting five to 24 minutes and designed for all levels. Later store information has described sessions up to 30 minutes; the catalog and class lengths may change.
Short sessions can suit a quick practice or a first try with the headset. The mini-instructor may be especially useful in floor-based poses, where a life-sized figure could be awkward to see from the mat. Neither feature substitutes for individual instruction or feedback.
Which Meta Quest headsets work?
Quest 3 was the headset explicitly emphasized in Meta’s original announcement. Later third-party listings report support for Quest 3S, Quest 2 and Quest Pro as well. Because those reports are not consistent with the original launch framing, treat compatibility as something to verify rather than assume.

Check the current Meta Horizon Store listing for the app’s supported devices and requirements in your region before purchasing a headset. Store support can change, and a third-party database may not reflect the latest availability.
Price and subscriptions: separate the launch offer from today’s price
Launch coverage reported a subscription price of $10 per month or $69 per year for new Alo Moves XR members, with a $20-per-year offer for existing Alo Moves members. It also reported a one-year offer for $49 for some new Quest 3 or Quest 3S purchasers. These are historical launch terms, not confirmed current prices.
A third-party Quest listing dated July 28, 2026 says “Alo Moves XR Is Free!” but that claim was not confirmed by an official Alo or Meta source in the available evidence. Check the live Quest Store or the app’s checkout screen before deciding what it costs. Alo’s broader digital wellness service is a separate comparison: a retrieved Alo page showed a $20 monthly price signal, but terms can vary by platform, region and promotion.

If you already own a supported headset, the relevant question is the current app price and what its catalog includes. If you would need to buy a headset solely for yoga videos, include the hardware cost in the comparison; conventional Alo classes on a phone, tablet or TV do not require Quest.

Before a session, clear enough floor space for the movements you plan to do, set the headset boundary or room mapping, and keep furniture, pets, children and fragile objects out of the exercise area. Use a stable surface and an appropriate mat. Good room lighting can help passthrough and tracking. The app may require internet access to download or stream content; check its current listing for offline and connectivity details.
Room mapping can help place virtual content, but it does not guarantee safety. A headset can obstruct vision, distract you or make it harder to notice someone entering the area. Move carefully, especially when changing poses or repositioning the instructor. Stop if you experience dizziness, nausea, headache or eye strain. Check the current app listing for seated options, hand tracking and other accessibility controls rather than assuming they are available on every headset.
Later coverage and store listings also mention badges, weekly and monthly streaks, Guest Mode and new classes over time. These are app engagement features, not medical-grade fitness measurements or evidence of personalized coaching.
Who is it for?
- Existing Quest owners: The clearest potential fit, especially if you want short guided sessions and are curious about seeing poses spatially.
- People who learn by watching movement: Viewing a captured instructor from different angles may be useful, though it cannot assess your own form.
- New headset buyers: Compare the full hardware cost and current service terms with screen-based classes and other reasons you want a Quest. Do not buy a headset just for a price or compatibility claim that has not been checked.
- People seeking live instruction or social classes: This is not a substitute for a teacher who observes and responds to you, or for a group studio class.
- People with injuries or rehabilitation needs: Treat the app as general wellness content, not diagnosis or treatment. Ask a qualified clinician or physical therapist for individualized guidance.
It may also be a poor fit if you have limited room, find headsets uncomfortable, or need reliable offline access. Alternatives include Alo’s conventional app or website for screen-based classes; Quest fitness apps such as Supernatural, FitXR and Les Mills Bodycombat VR for different workout styles; free video platforms; and local studio classes. These options differ in workout focus and coaching format, so compare the current catalog and terms directly rather than assuming they offer the same experience.
Bottom line
Alo Moves XR’s distinctive idea is to bring prerecorded, volumetric instructors into a Quest user’s physical space and pair that with a broader 2D class library. Its usefulness depends on headset comfort, safe floor space, supported-device availability and current pricing. It can add a spatial way to follow a demonstration, but it does not provide live form correction—and readers should verify both compatibility and cost in the official store before making a purchase decision.
