Netflix’s September 2024 lineup in the United States combined high-profile originals, international dramas, true-crime documentaries, licensed classics, returning seasons, and a few unusual live events. The month’s most prominent arrivals included The Perfect Couple, Rebel Ridge, Uglies, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, His Three Daughters, Nobody Wants This, Rez Ball, and Will & Harper.
This is a U.S.-focused retrospective of what was scheduled to arrive during September 2024. Netflix catalogs vary by country and change over time, so a title that arrived in the United States that month may not be available in every country—or may no longer be on Netflix.
The biggest Netflix launches of September 2024
September’s most visible releases covered several very different kinds of viewing: a locked-room-style wedding mystery, a grounded action thriller, a dystopian young-adult adaptation, a dramatized true-crime case, a romantic comedy, a Native American basketball story, and a documentary road trip about friendship and transition.
| Date | Title | Format and what it is about |
|---|---|---|
| September 5 | The Perfect Couple | A six-episode mystery limited series starring Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Eve Hewson, Dakota Fanning, and Meghann Fahy. A body found before a wealthy Nantucket wedding turns everyone in the wedding party into a possible suspect. |
| September 6 | Rebel Ridge | Jeremy Saulnier’s action thriller stars Aaron Pierre as an ex-Marine confronting small-town corruption while trying to post bail for his cousin. |
| September 13 | Uglies | A science-fiction film based on Scott Westerfeld’s novel. In a society built around enforced beauty standards, a teenager waits for mandatory cosmetic surgery. |
| September 19 | Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story | The second installment of Netflix’s Monster anthology dramatizes the case surrounding the 1989 murders of José and Kitty Menendez by their sons. The cast includes Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Cooper Koch, Javier Bardem, and Chloë Sevigny. |
| September 20 | His Three Daughters | A family drama starring Natasha Lyonne, Elizabeth Olsen, and Carrie Coon. Three estranged sisters reunite in a New York apartment to care for their dying father. The film also received a limited theatrical release beginning September 6. |
| September 26 | Nobody Wants This | A romantic-comedy series created by Erin Foster and starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody. Its central couple is an agnostic sex podcaster and an unconventional rabbi whose relationship faces pressure from their different lives and families. |
| September 27 | Rez Ball | A sports drama directed by Sydney Freeland about the Chuska Warriors, a New Mexico high-school basketball team with strong Native American cultural roots, after the loss of its star player. |
| September 27 | Will & Harper | Josh Greenbaum’s documentary follows longtime friends Will Ferrell and Harper Steele on a road trip after Steele comes out as a trans woman. |
A note about Uglies and its source material
Uglies is one of September’s clearest adaptation releases. The film is based on Scott Westerfeld’s novel, so readers who want to compare the dystopian world, its beauty standards, and the changes made for the screen can read Scott Westerfeld’s original Uglies novel before watching the Netflix adaptation.

That recommendation is about comparing the adaptation with its source material—not a claim that the book or film is required viewing. As with any book-to-screen adaptation, the two versions may differ in structure, emphasis, and characterization.

Every Netflix original and exclusive added during September 2024
The following calendar covers the announced Netflix-branded, commissioned, acquired, or exclusive movies and shows that arrived in the U.S. during the month. Netflix’s use of the word original does not necessarily mean that Netflix produced a title itself; the company may acquire, distribute, or release a project under an exclusive arrangement.

The Circle Season 7 was released in batches
One easy detail to miss in September’s schedule is that The Circle, Season 7, did not arrive as a complete season on September 11. Netflix released it in weekly groups:

What to watch first, depending on what you want
- A mystery with a closed setting: Start with The Perfect Couple, whose wedding-party setup makes the guest list central to the story.
- A serious action thriller: Choose Rebel Ridge, which places its ex-Marine protagonist against local corruption rather than a conventional global threat.
- A book-to-film comparison: Read Scott Westerfeld’s Uglies first, then watch the September 13 adaptation.
- A dramatized true-crime story: Try Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, while remembering that it is a scripted dramatization of a real case. For nonfiction treatment, September also offered Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter, Jailbreak: Love on the Run, Mr. McMahon, and An Invisible Victim: The Eliza Samudio Case.
- A family drama: His Three Daughters centers on estranged siblings caring for their dying father.
- A romantic comedy: Nobody Wants This builds its central conflict around a relationship between an agnostic sex podcaster and a rabbi.
- A sports story with a specific community setting: Watch Rez Ball.
- A documentary about friendship and a road trip: Pick Will & Harper.
- A major international nonfiction release: Consider What’s Next? The Future with Bill Gates, Ángel Di María: Breaking Down the Wall, or Apollo 13: Survival.
- A nostalgic library binge: September 1’s Jaws films, Stand by Me, Field of Dreams, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and Midnight Run offered the strongest starting points.

Important availability caveats
- This list is for the United States. Netflix’s catalog differs by country because rights ownership, regional popularity, and licensing arrangements vary.
- September 2024 dates describe arrivals, not permanent availability. Licensed titles can leave when a rights window expires, and Netflix’s catalog changes periodically.
- A Netflix original label does not always describe production ownership. Netflix can produce, acquire, distribute, or exclusively release a title.
- Weekly releases matter. The Circle, Season 7, began on September 11 but did not finish until its October 2 finale.
- Availability can change after publication. Search Netflix in the relevant country and verify the title’s current listing before planning a watch party or documentary screening.
