There are four full-length CG animated Resident Evil movies. Watch them in release order as Degeneration (2008), Damnation (2012), Vendetta (2017), and Death Island (2023). Their story chronology is the same sequence: 2005, 2011, 2014, and 2015. Infinite Darkness is a separate animated drama series, not a feature film.
Animated Resident Evil movies in release order
For a first watch, follow release order. It preserves the sequence in which the films introduced their stories and continuity. Capcom’s official animated-movie lineup identifies the four features.

- Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008) — Set in 2005, it is the first full-length CG animated feature based on the game franchise, which began in 1996. Capcom and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan described it as the franchise’s first full-length CG motion-picture film.
- Resident Evil: Damnation (2012) — Set in 2011, this CG feature is a sequel to Degeneration and takes place before the events of Resident Evil 6. Capcom and Sony Pictures announced it as a 3D full-length CG sequel for release in 2012.
- Resident Evil: Vendetta (2017) — Set in 2014, the film’s official synopsis features Leon S. Kennedy and Rebecca Chambers.
- Resident Evil: Death Island (2023) — Set in 2015, it is the latest feature in this CG movie sequence and follows Vendetta chronologically.
Release order and story order
The two orders are identical for these four films. The dates differ, but there is no need to rearrange the movies to follow their in-universe chronology.

Is Infinite Darkness a movie?
No. Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is a CG animated drama series released in 2021, not a feature film. The PlayStation chronology distinguishes the series from the theatrical CG movies, so leave it out of a movie-only list. If you are watching animated Resident Evil screen stories more broadly, treat it as a separate series rather than inserting it into the four-film sequence.

Streaming, rental, and purchase options vary by country and change over time. Check current local listings for each title rather than relying on a platform recommendation that may no longer apply. Physical editions are another option; Capcom reported that worldwide home-video shipments of Degeneration exceeded 1.6 million copies in 2010.
