Klum confirmed the couple’s engagement in December 2018. They then married privately in February 2019, before holding a larger celebration aboard a yacht in Capri, Italy, on August 3, 2019. The private ceremony and the Capri celebration are sometimes described together, but they were separate events.

What does Tom Kaulitz do for a living?
Tom Kaulitz works as a professional musician. He is best known as Tokio Hotel’s guitarist and songwriter, and he has been part of the band since Tom and Bill Kaulitz formed it in 2001 with Georg Listing and Gustav Schäfer.
Tokio Hotel broke through internationally with Schrei in 2005. The band’s subsequent discography includes Zimmer 483 (2007), the English-language album Scream (2007), Humanoid (2009), Kings of Suburbia (2014), Dream Machine (2017), and 2001 (2022). The band’s official biography provides the chronology and identifies 2001 as the previous studio album before the announced ENCORE release.
Tokio Hotel’s own official biography reports more than 10 million records sold worldwide, more than 70 platinum and 120 gold awards, and more than 110 national and international awards. Because these figures come from the band’s official biography rather than an independently audited sales report, they should be understood as Tokio Hotel’s reported achievements.
Tom is not Tokio Hotel’s lead singer. Bill Kaulitz is the vocalist, while Tom plays guitar and contributes to the group’s songwriting. That distinction matters because celebrity coverage often reduces Tom to his relationship with Klum or incorrectly describes him as the band’s singer.
| Tokio Hotel milestone | Year | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Band formed | 2001 | Tom and Bill Kaulitz founded the group with Georg Listing and Gustav Schäfer. |
| Schrei | 2005 | The album propelled Tokio Hotel to stardom. |
| Zimmer 483 and Scream | 2007 | The band continued its German-language work and released an English-language album. |
| Humanoid | 2009 | Tokio Hotel’s next studio-album era followed the international breakthrough. |
| Kings of Suburbia and Dream Machine | 2014 and 2017 | The group continued releasing studio music. |
| 2001 | 2022 | The most recent previously released studio album listed in the dossier. |

Tom Kaulitz is widely known because of his marriage to Heidi Klum, but his independent public identity rests on a substantial music career. He has been Tokio Hotel’s guitarist and songwriter since the band formed in 2001, helped build an internationally successful catalog, and remains visible through the group’s new music and the Netflix series he shares with Bill.
