What the commercial is called and when it aired
Amazon officially called the campaign “Alexa’s Body.” It ran during Super Bowl LV on February 7, 2021, in a 60-second placement. Amazon’s campaign announcement described Jordan as bringing Alexa’s “new body” to life (Amazon). The NFL also identified the spot as “Michael B. Jordan is Alexa by Amazon” (NFL).
The headline’s “Alexa, is it warm in here?” wording is a playful description of the ad’s deliberately steamy premise. Available commercial listings do not establish it as a defining spoken line, so it should not be treated as a confirmed quotation.
What happens in “Alexa’s Body”
- The new speaker inspires the idea. An Amazon employee admires the redesigned spherical Echo and says she cannot imagine a more beautiful vessel for Alexa.
- A bus advertisement supplies the fantasy. She sees Jordan’s image on an advertisement for Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse and imagines him as Alexa’s physical form.
- Human Alexa handles household requests. Jordan responds to commands involving cooking, sprinklers, lighting, bath products and audiobook narration.
- The joke becomes romantic. The employee’s fantasy grows increasingly suggestive while her husband or partner reacts with visible discomfort.
- The product returns to view. The punchline connects Jordan’s imagined “body” with Alexa’s actual new hardware form: a sphere.
Jordan is not literally transformed into an Echo, and the commercial does not introduce a human-shaped device. He plays an imagined, humanized embodiment of Alexa for the story.

Who Michael B. Jordan is playing
Jordan’s recognizability—particularly his role as Erik Killmonger in Marvel’s Black Panther—makes the fantasy immediately legible. In this commercial, however, his active movie tie-in is Amazon Studios’ Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse, advertised for Prime Video on March 5, 2021. The bus poster gives Amazon a second promotional objective inside the Alexa story.
Nothing in the documented campaign indicates that Jordan replaced Alexa’s standard voice on Amazon devices. He is the on-screen actor representing Alexa’s imagined body.

What Amazon was actually selling
The “new body” was a product-design metaphor for the fourth-generation Echo family, which Amazon had introduced in fall 2020. The full-size Echo changed from the familiar cylinder to a spherical form, and the fourth-generation Echo Dot received a similar redesign.

Why the joke works
Anthropomorphism with a literal “body”
Voice assistants normally have no visible physical identity. Amazon turns that abstraction into a casting question: if Alexa had a body, what would it look like? The answer—an exceptionally muscular, famous actor—makes an ordinary speaker redesign feel like a celebrity reveal.
Celebrity appeal versus product clarity
Jordan makes the commercial memorable, but the fantasy can overshadow the hardware. The visual product message is simple: Alexa has a new physical form, represented by a sphere. The human storyline supplies the attention.

The commercial listing identifies the song as “The Most Beautiful Thing” by Bruno Major (iSpot). iSpot lists Lucky Generals and Hungry Man among the campaign’s creative and production credits; an awards entry also credits those partners (campaign-award entry). These are commercial credits, not evidence about the product’s technical specifications.
How it fits Amazon’s Super Bowl advertising
GeekWire described the spot as Amazon’s sixth consecutive year advertising during the Super Bowl and noted that the previous year’s Alexa commercial starred Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi (GeekWire). The recurring strategy is to make an invisible voice assistant culturally recognizable through a compact comic premise and a high-profile cast.
Where to identify the products today
The relevant official destinations are Amazon’s Echo, Echo Dot and Alexa pages. They may not represent the exact fourth-generation models shown in the 2021 commercial. Prices, stock, features, regional compatibility and privacy controls change over time and by country, so the ad itself is not evidence of current availability or specifications. The film promotion pointed viewers toward Prime Video, where present-day availability and subscription terms are region- and date-dependent.
