PerthNow reported on 30 January 2012 that Bond said, “It’s so new,” before adding, “I lost my beautiful wife. She was an absolute, absolute angel.” PerthNow’s contemporaneous report records that wording.
In an archived broadcast report published on 25 June 2012, ABC News reproduced Bond saying: “I lost my beautiful wife. She’s an absolute, absolute angel. I can’t talk anymore. Who was the wife in the reports?
The woman was Diana Bliss, Bond’s second wife—not his first wife, Eileen. Contemporaneous coverage said Bliss was found dead at the Cottesloe home she shared with Bond. PerthNow reported that Bond called St John Ambulance after finding her body.
What police said—and what the reports do not establish
PerthNow and The West Australian attributed to police that there were no suspicious circumstances. PerthNow said a report was planned for the coroner. The reviewed contemporaneous coverage does not provide a final coronial finding, so the police-attributed statement should not be treated as one.

Bond’s later comments about Diana Bliss
In a PerthNow interview published on 6 June 2015, Bond reflected on the loss, saying, “Her death was the worst thing that ever happened to me.” He also said: “When she had depression, I wanted to help her, I just couldn’t understand it.
