Al Pacino remembered Diane Keaton as both his partner and friend, saying she brought him happiness, influenced his life and left memories that returned with painful force after her death. In a statement given to Deadline and reported by The Guardian on October 16, 2025, he praised her energy and creativity and concluded: “She was a wonder.”
What Pacino said about Diane Keaton
Pacino’s tribute came five days after Keaton died on October 11, 2025, at age 79. He described her as “my partner and my friend,” recalling that she brought him happiness and influenced his life. Her death, he said, brought their memories back with painful force.
He also praised the way Keaton approached life and work: “She lived without limits, and everything she touched carried her unmistakable energy.” He remembered her creativity and the work she made, ending with the words that captured the tribute: “She was a wonder.”
Their connection on screen and off
Pacino and Keaton played Michael and Kay Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather (1972). Their connection extended beyond the film: according to The Guardian, they had an on-and-off romantic relationship into the 1980s. They never married.

The Washington Post noted that her performance in Annie Hall earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress.
Tributes to Keaton’s creativity
