Disney has moved on from the previously publicized 2026 target, but has not announced a specific month, day, episode count, or weekly-release schedule. Production has wrapped, the principal returning cast has been announced, and Lucasfilm has teased a larger story involving Peridea and the Mortis mythology.
Spoiler warning: This article discusses the ending of Ahsoka season 1 and official season-two story teases involving Thrawn, Baylan Skoll, Peridea and Mortis.
When will Ahsoka season 2 be released?
Ahsoka season 2 is scheduled for early 2027 on Disney+. Rosario Dawson announced the updated window during Disney’s 2026 Upfront presentation, while Disney separately reported that production had recently wrapped.
That is the firm release information currently available. Disney has not supplied an exact premiere date or month, so claims that the season will arrive on a particular day—or that it will follow a confirmed episode-by-episode rollout—go beyond the official announcement. Viewers should treat “early 2027” as the complete confirmed window until Disney+ publishes a more detailed schedule.

Who is in the Ahsoka season 2 cast?
The announced season-two cast plans include the central performers from the first season and several major Star Wars characters whose stories remain unresolved:
- Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano: Dawson remains the lead character and publicly announced the early-2027 release window.
- Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren: Sabine’s connection to Ahsoka, Ezra and Peridea makes her return central to the continuing story.
- Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn: Thrawn’s return is one of the season’s defining conflicts after his re-emergence at the end of season 1.
- Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger: Ezra was included in the official description of the early season-two footage.
- Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla: Hera is also part of the announced returning ensemble.
- Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker: Christensen was included in the official season-two footage description, making his involvement one of the clearest announced returning cast plans.
- Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati: Lucasfilm has said Sakhno will reprise the role.
- Rory McCann as Baylan Skoll: McCann is joining the cast to continue Baylan’s story after Ray Stevenson died in 2023.
Rory McCann is playing Baylan Skoll
Baylan Skoll will continue into season 2 with Rory McCann in the role. Ray Stevenson originated the character in season 1 and died in 2023, so McCann’s casting is a continuation of Baylan’s character rather than a return by Stevenson.
The official language describes McCann as continuing Baylan Skoll’s journey. It does not provide an in-story explanation for the change in performer, and it is better not to invent one. It is also inaccurate to list Stevenson as a season-two performer: his connection is to the first season, while McCann is the announced actor for season 2.
Who is directing season 2?
Dave Filoni remains the series’ central creative authority. He created Ahsoka, serves as showrunner and is credited by Lucasfilm as a writer and executive producer. Jon Favreau is also an executive producer, alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson and Carrie Beck.
Trade and industry reports have identified Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jennifer Getzinger and Anders Engström as season-two directors. Those names should be treated as reported production information, not as a complete definitive episode-director roster, because the strongest official sources reviewed do not publish a full list.

What will season 2 be about?
There is no full official synopsis yet. The most reliable way to describe the story is as a continuation of the unresolved threads left by season 1, rather than as a confirmed sequence of specific events.
The season is expected to address:
- Peridea: Ahsoka and Sabine were left in the distant galaxy at the end of season 1, while Baylan began pursuing a mysterious power there.
- Thrawn’s return: Grand Admiral Thrawn escaped Peridea and re-entered the main Star Wars conflict.
- Ezra Bridger’s new position: Ezra returned to the known galaxy, but his reunion with Hera and the wider consequences of Thrawn’s escape remain open.
- Shin Hati’s next move: Shin was separated from Baylan’s path, leaving her future allegiance and ambitions unresolved.
- Baylan’s search: Baylan’s final-season-one imagery connected his quest to the Mortis mythology.
The official Mortis tease
The strongest story clue comes from Lucasfilm’s coverage of Star Wars Celebration Japan in April 2025. That coverage indicated that the Father, Son and Daughter—figures associated with the Mortis mythology—are expected to affect the season-two story, following Baylan’s final image on Peridea.
This is an official creative tease, but it is not a complete plot synopsis. It does not prove that every Mortis figure will appear on screen in a particular form, nor does it confirm a specific storyline involving other characters or entities sometimes discussed in fan theories. Questions about Abeloth, exact Mortis appearances, crossover films and individual surprise returns remain speculation unless Lucasfilm confirms them.
A larger-scale season?
The official early-look description emphasized larger battles, space combat and lightsaber action. Footage shown to audiences included Ahsoka, Sabine, Thrawn, Ezra, Hera and Anakin. That supports describing season 2 as more expansive in scale, but it does not establish specific victories, deaths or the eventual ending.
In practical terms, viewers can reasonably expect the series to widen its focus beyond the personal search that drove much of season 1. The confirmed material points toward a story balancing the political and military danger of Thrawn’s return with the stranger mythology surrounding Peridea and Baylan.

What happened at the end of season 1?
Season 1 ended with the characters divided across two galaxies. Ahsoka and Sabine remained on Peridea, while Ezra returned to the main galaxy and Thrawn escaped to continue his plans. Hera survived the confrontation, and Shin Hati was left on Peridea after separating from Baylan.
Baylan reached a location associated with monumental Mortis imagery, suggesting that his search was aimed at a power older and stranger than a conventional Imperial or Jedi objective. Ahsoka, Sabine and the local Force-sensitive presence represented by the mysterious Great Mothers were also part of the unresolved Peridea situation.
Those endings explain why season 2 has several simultaneous story tracks: the threat posed by Thrawn, the fate of the stranded characters, Ezra’s return, Shin’s independence and Baylan’s unfinished pursuit. They do not, however, reveal how those threads will be resolved.
Has a trailer for season 2 been released?
No public full trailer date has been established by the official material reviewed. Disney and Lucasfilm have described a sizzle reel and behind-the-scenes material shown at Disney’s Upfront presentation, but that is not the same as announcing a public trailer launch.
Fans should distinguish between footage shown to an event audience, officially described early footage, leaked material and a trailer released through Disney or Lucasfilm’s public channels. Until an official trailer is published, detailed scene-by-scene claims should be treated cautiously.
How many episodes will Ahsoka season 2 have?
The exact episode count has not been confirmed by the authoritative sources reviewed for this update. An eight-episode figure has circulated in secondary databases and entertainment reports, but it should not be presented as official without confirmation from Lucasfilm, Disney+, or production credits.

The same caution applies to the release pattern. There is currently no confirmed announcement saying whether all episodes will arrive at once or whether Disney+ will use a weekly rollout.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Will there be an Ahsoka season 3?
There is no official season-three renewal or production announcement in the sources reviewed. That means season 2 should not be described as the final season, but it also should not be presented as part of a confirmed three-season plan.
Dave Filoni’s wider Star Wars storytelling plans and the show’s connections to other series may encourage speculation about what follows. Those broader possibilities are not confirmation of a third Ahsoka season.
What is still unknown?
- The exact premiere date and the specific meaning of “early” in Disney’s 2027 window.
- The episode count and release schedule.
- When a public trailer or full teaser will be released.
- The complete season-two director list.
- Which Mortis figures will appear, and how the mythology will be represented on screen.
- The detailed plot, including character outcomes and the season’s ending.
- Whether Disney will announce a third season.
Until those details arrive through official Disney or Lucasfilm channels, the dependable update is narrower but significant: the series has completed production, its major cast plans are known, and the premiere has moved to early 2027.
