A 1964 CBS News clip captures a young Beatles fan introducing herself as “Adrienne from Brooklyn” and telling Paul McCartney she loves him. Decades later, Adrienne D’Onofrio’s children recognized the woman as their late mother. Their identification is a family belief, not a conclusively established match: Rolling Stone described D’Onofrio as a possible identity after reviewing photographs, footage and public records, according to its report reproduced by The Paul McCartney Project.
What happens in the 1964 clip?
CBS News recorded a young Beatles fan in 1964. In the longer version of the footage, she defends her devotion to the group and speaks directly to McCartney:
“I don’t care what anybody thinks! I’ll love the Beatles forever and I’ll always love them. Even when I’m 105 and an old grandmother I’ll love them. And Paul McCartney, if you are listening, Adrienne from Brooklyn loves you with all her heart.”
The clip identifies its speaker only as “Adrienne from Brooklyn”; it does not give a surname. The longer footage was reported as appearing in Ron Howard’s 2016 documentary The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years. The Paul McCartney Project records the documentary’s release as September 15, 2016, with DVD and Blu-ray editions following on November 18 that year.

Why does the family believe the fan was Adrienne D’Onofrio?
As reported by Rolling Stone in an account reproduced by The Paul McCartney Project, Nicole D’Onofrio recognized her mother while watching the clip on TikTok with her daughter and alerted her siblings. Her brother John also said the young woman looked and sounded like their mother. Rolling Stone treated Adrienne D’Onofrio as a possible match after reviewing photographs, footage and public records; the available account does not establish the identification as certain.
The reproduced report says D’Onofrio was born July 29, 1951, grew up in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, and died in 1992 at age 41 after a lymphoma diagnosis. Those biographical details are reported through family statements. The family also said Beatles records and coins were among her belongings.

How did Paul McCartney respond?
The archival footage resurfaced as McCartney promoted his photography exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum. The report reproduced by The Paul McCartney Project says he shared a video featuring the fan and answered her invitation with a message of his own:
“Hey, Adrienne, it’s Paul. Listen, I saw your video. I’m in Brooklyn now. I’m in New York. I finally got here. We got an exhibition, photo exhibition. Come along and see it!”

What was the Brooklyn Museum exhibition?
Paul McCartney Photographs 1963–64: Eyes of the Storm ran at the Brooklyn Museum from May 3 through August 18, 2024. McCartney’s official announcement says it featured more than 250 photographs from his archives, documenting his view of the Beatles’ rise during 1963 and 1964. The show was organized by London’s National Portrait Gallery in collaboration with McCartney.
The announcement also says the Beatles’ first televised Ed Sullivan Show performance was watched by around seventy-three million viewers — Paul McCartney’s official exhibition announcement, 2024. That figure provides historical context for the exhibition; it is not a measure of the clip’s audience or evidence for the family’s identification. The exhibition has ended.

What can be said with confidence?
- The 1964 CBS footage shows a young fan who calls herself “Adrienne from Brooklyn” and expresses her love for the Beatles and McCartney.
- Adrienne D’Onofrio’s children recognized the woman as their mother, and Rolling Stone described her as a possible identity, not a confirmed one, in the report reproduced by The Paul McCartney Project.
- The longer clip was reported as included in the 2016 documentary The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years.
That distinction matters: the emotional connection is clear in the footage, and the family’s recognition gives the identification a personal basis, but the available reporting does not prove that the young fan and D’Onofrio were the same person.
