Addison, Addison Rae’s 2025 debut album, is most persuasive as a carefully composed pop world rather than a bid to settle on one sound. Its songs move among dance-pop, R&B and electronic reference points, held together by a sensual, wistful atmosphere and the unusually consistent partnership of Rae with producers and co-writers Luka Kloser and Elvira Anderfjärd. The result is polished, playful and sometimes deliberately strange—and more interesting when its camp persona and emotional sincerity are allowed to coexist.
What kind of album is Addison?
Released June 6, 2025, through Columbia Records, Addison is Rae’s debut full-length album. Apple Music lists 12 songs and a 33-minute runtime. Those compact proportions suit a record that favors quick changes in texture over extended statements.
There is no single genre that neatly contains it. Pitchfork hears a shared sensual, heady mood, with stacked chords and wistful atmosphere; The Guardian points to a range that includes Jersey club, ’90s-style R&B and early-2010s electronica. These are critical descriptions rather than official genre labels, but together they get at the album’s central balance: the arrangements change their reference points while the mood remains recognizably its own.
That cohesion has a concrete source. Kloser and Anderfjärd produced every track and co-wrote the album with Rae; Tove Burman also co-wrote “Headphones On.” A recurring creative team gives the record continuity without making every song sound alike. Apple Music’s editorial framing emphasizes the mood-based connection between tracks and Rae’s interest in playing freely, an approach that fits the album’s shifts between sleek pop surfaces and more off-kilter touches.

How do the songs balance polish, camp and sincerity?
The production’s polish is part of the album’s appeal, but it does not erase its oddness. The songs can feel glossy and knowingly theatrical, yet their arrangements are not simply interchangeable pop backdrops. Rae’s performance leans into the larger-than-life persona at the same time that the writing leaves room for vulnerability and uncertainty. The tension is productive: the album does not always ask listeners to decide whether a moment is a joke or a confession.
“Money is Everything” and “Fame is a Gun”
“Money is Everything” and “Fame is a Gun” make that ambiguity especially clear. Both songs play with show-business imagery and the glamor of success, but their camp quality does not cancel their more earnest undercurrents. Pitchfork and Apple Music both describe these tracks as occupying that overlap between performance and sincerity. Rae’s commitment to the stylized voice is what lets the songs work as pop rather than as detached commentary: the fantasy is performed with enough conviction to become part of the emotional story.

Big choruses, builds and sudden changes
The Guardian highlights Rae’s taste for big choruses and builds, and that instinct helps connect the album’s varied sounds to a familiar pop pleasure: anticipation followed by release. Not every track pursues the same kind of propulsion. Some invite movement; others linger in atmosphere. The variety gives the short album contrast, though listeners looking for a uniform dance record may find its less driving passages interrupt the momentum.
What is the album saying about Rae’s persona?
The record’s pop ambition is often discussed alongside Rae’s rise to prominence on TikTok, a context AP also brings to its assessment. That biography helps explain why a debut album arrives with such an immediately legible public persona, but it is not the most useful measure of the songs. Addison works best when heard as an authored pop performance: a record about image, desire and arrival that uses the machinery of celebrity as material rather than asking listeners to treat the artist’s background as the whole story.

In an Apple Music interview excerpt, Rae says: “Once you start playing it safe, feeling like, ‘Okay, I’m going to respond with what people want,’ you lose all your freedom.” She follows that thought by urging herself to “Let yourself play,” and describes the album’s idea of arrival as reaching the person she feels she has become after “all these ups and downs.” Those remarks illuminate the record’s taste for risk and self-invention, but the songs still have to carry that idea themselves. Their strongest moments do so through the contrast between an almost cartoonishly assured surface and a more wistful emotional center.
Which songs stand out, and what is the track list?
“Aquamarine” is among the clearest expressions of the album’s atmospheric side, while “Diet Pepsi” establishes its appetite for sleek, stylized pop. “Money is Everything” and “Fame is a Gun” are the most revealing pair for listeners interested in how the record treats fame as both fantasy and performance. “Headphones On,” co-written by Tove Burman in addition to Rae, Kloser and Anderfjärd, closes the sequence on a more inward note. These are listening-guide judgments, not an objective ranking; the best entry point depends on whether you want propulsion, atmosphere or theatricality.

Who is likely to enjoy Addison?
This album is a strong fit for pop listeners who like a coherent mood more than a fixed genre, enjoy theatrical self-presentation, and welcome glossy production with a little strangeness around the edges. Its mix of club references, atmospheric passages and large pop gestures gives it range without abandoning its central sensibility.
It may be less satisfying if you want consistent dance-floor energy, sharply literal storytelling, or a record that keeps its performance and private feeling clearly separate. Addison favors impression and persona over plainspoken explanation. That choice is also its defining strength: the album makes its world feel coherent even when its individual tracks point in different stylistic directions.
