In live-action movies and TV, Catwoman has been played by Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, Anne Hathaway, Camren Bicondova, Lili Simmons and Zoë Kravitz. The 1960s television series and its 1966 feature film had different performers, while the 2004 film gave Halle Berry a different character identity: Patience Philips, not Selina Kyle.
Who has played Catwoman in live-action movies and TV?
These are the principal live-action screen portrayals, arranged by production. The list is not an episode-by-episode cast guide, and it does not attempt to catalogue animated voice performers.
| Production | Actress | Role and context |
|---|---|---|
| Batman television series (1966–68) | Julie Newmar | Catwoman in the series’ early seasons. |
| Batman feature film (1966) | Lee Meriwether | Catwoman opposite Adam West; a separate film casting from the TV series. |
| Batman television series (1966–68) | Eartha Kitt | Catwoman in the final season. |
| Batman Returns (1992) | Michelle Pfeiffer | Selina Kyle/Catwoman. |
| Catwoman (2004) | Halle Berry | Patience Philips, the film’s lead character—not Selina Kyle. |
| The Dark Knight Rises (2012) | Anne Hathaway | Catwoman. |
| Gotham (2014–19) | Camren Bicondova | The younger Selina Kyle. |
| Gotham (2014–19) | Lili Simmons | An older version of Selina Kyle. |
| The Batman (2022) | Zoë Kravitz | Selina Kyle/Catwoman. |
Why the 1960s had three Catwoman actresses
The casting depends on which production you mean. Julie Newmar played Catwoman in the early seasons of the Batman TV series, and Eartha Kitt took over in its final season. Lee Meriwether played Catwoman in the separate 1966 theatrical film. Treating all three as a single TV cast—or assigning Meriwether’s film role to the series—blurs distinct credits.
How the later portrayals differ
Film versions of Selina Kyle
Michelle Pfeiffer’s Selina Kyle appears in Batman Returns (1992); Anne Hathaway plays Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises (2012); and Zoë Kravitz plays Selina Kyle/Catwoman in The Batman (2022). Each belongs to a different film and story, rather than a continuous on-screen character timeline.

Halle Berry’s Patience Philips
The title character of Catwoman (2004) is Patience Philips, played by Halle Berry. DC’s official film page identifies Philips as the lead character, so Berry’s role should not be described as Selina Kyle.
Two Selina Kyles in Gotham
Camren Bicondova portrays the younger Selina Kyle in the series, while Lili Simmons appears later as an older version. They are two performers representing the character at different story stages, not competing credits for one portrayal.

Eartha Kitt’s place in Catwoman’s screen history
Eartha Kitt was the first Black actress to play Catwoman on screen. In a Golden Globes retrospective, she reflected: “I thought it was one of the pioneering things that had happened in television and more of that kind of thing should be happening now.”

There is no objective ranking established by these casting records. A useful comparison starts by separating the medium and production, the character’s identity, and the point in the story being portrayed. The TV series, standalone films and serialized Gotham give the role different narrative contexts; which performance a viewer prefers is a matter of interpretation, not a measured fact.
