Oliver was 51. His daughters, Madita Klepser, 10, and Annik Klepser, 12, were also on board, along with the aircraft’s pilot and owner, Robert W. Sachs.
The flight was bound for Saint Lucia. The Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA) opened an investigation, but its preliminary report did not determine what caused the crash.
What happened to Christian Oliver’s plane?
The aircraft, a privately operated Bellanca BL17-30A registered as N4023B, departed J.P. Mitchell Airport on the island of Bequia shortly after 12:08 p.m. local time on January 4, 2024. The intended destination was Hewanorra International Airport in Saint Lucia.
According to the ECCAA preliminary report, the pilot declared an emergency approximately one minute after takeoff. The aircraft subsequently crashed into the sea near Petit Nevis, just west of Bequia. The report records the sequence of events but does not establish why the emergency occurred.

Local fishermen and divers went to the crash site. Divers recovered the occupants, and the bodies were transferred to the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Coast Guard.
Who was aboard?
| Person | Role or identification |
|---|---|
| Robert W. Sachs | Pilot and aircraft owner |
| Christian Oliver | Actor; identified in official reporting by his birth and legal name, Christian Klepser |
| Madita Klepser | Oliver’s daughter, 10 |
| Annik Klepser | Oliver’s daughter, 12 |
All four people aboard died. Police accounts and later family reporting identified Madita as 10 and Annik as 12. An earlier government statement gave different ages, so the later police and family accounts are the more appropriate attribution when discussing the children’s ages.

His final filmed project was reported to be Forever Hold Your Peace, which had completed filming before his death. That production detail is separate from the aviation investigation and does not provide evidence about the crash.

The official preliminary report does not say that engine failure, pilot error, a stall, or an attempted “impossible turn” caused the accident. It states that the pilot declared an emergency and that the aircraft later struck the water, while noting that the information was tentative.
Some media reports repeated a claim that the aircraft experienced engine trouble. That description came from a statement by Oliver’s former wife, Jessica Klepser, rather than from a final official accident finding. It should not be presented as the established cause.
ECCAA said further work would be needed, including examination of wreckage, engineering evidence, operational records, witness information, and other investigation materials. ECCAA’s current accident-investigation page lists the preliminary report for N4023B but does not list a final report for this accident.
Where did the crash occur?
The aircraft was traveling toward Saint Lucia, but it did not crash near Saint Lucia. The impact occurred in the sea near Petit Nevis, off Bequia, in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. This distinction matters because early summaries sometimes described the event generally as a “Caribbean” or “Saint Lucia” crash, even though the departure point and crash location were in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
Remembering Oliver and his daughters
Following the crash, Jessica Klepser mourned Oliver and their daughters publicly. She described Madita and Annik as children involved in dance, art, singing, and swimming. The family’s statements focused on their lives and personalities rather than on speculation about the accident.

It does not establish the mechanical or operational reason the aircraft went down. Until a final investigative finding is published, those limits are important when recounting the tragedy.
