Abhishek Bachchan’s Twitter account, @juniorbachchan, was briefly compromised on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. Reports described a changed handle, unauthorized Turkish- and English-language posts, altered profile imagery and the temporary disappearance of Twitter’s blue verification badge. The account was recovered within hours, and Bachchan confirmed that it was “back to normal.”
What happened to Abhishek Bachchan’s Twitter account?
During the February 7, 2018 incident, the actor’s account showed several visible signs of unauthorized access. Contemporary reports said the displayed name or handle changed from “JuniorBachchan” to a variant reported as “JuniorBachchana.” Tweets and retweets appeared in Turkish and English, while the account’s cover image was replaced with a picture of a missile marked “Ayyildiz Tim.”
The blue verification badge also disappeared temporarily. The unauthorized posts were later deleted, and the handle, profile settings and verification status were reportedly restored. Scroll.in’s contemporaneous report and accounts from NDTV and The Indian Express recorded the changes.

Bachchan confirmed the recovery
After regaining control, Bachchan acknowledged the incident on Twitter. In a lighthearted response, he said the account was “all sorted out now and back to normal,” adding that he was “quite chuffed” the attackers had found him interesting enough to target. His message came after the suspicious content had been removed.

Who was blamed?
Several news reports attributed the intrusion to Ayyildiz Tim, described at the time as a Turkey-based cyber group associated in coverage with pro-Pakistan messaging. The changed cover image and some of the account activity were cited as reasons for that attribution.
That identification should be treated as a contemporaneous media-reported allegation, not as a publicly documented forensic finding that definitively proves the group was responsible. The available reports do not establish the precise technical route used to access Bachchan’s account.

Part of a wider wave of compromises
Bachchan’s account was not reported as an isolated case. Around February 6 and 7, 2018, Indian public figures including actor Anupam Kher, BJP leader Ram Madhav and parliamentarian Swapan Dasgupta were also reported to have experienced account compromises or suspicious activity. Coverage grouped the incidents together, although it does not prove that every account was accessed through the same method.

Twitter Support said its teams were investigating an issue affecting a small number of Indian users and warned people not to open links in direct messages from unknown accounts. Anupam Kher separately discussed suspicious messages, but the available reporting does not show that Bachchan’s own account was compromised through a phishing link.

What did the missing blue badge mean?
The vanished badge was an important clue because it appeared alongside the altered handle, unauthorized posts and changed imagery. It was not, by itself, proof of a hack. Verification indicators can change for administrative reasons, so the stronger evidence in this case was the combination of multiple profile changes, deleted posts and Bachchan’s own confirmation that the account had been hacked.
Twitter was the platform involved in 2018, before the service was rebranded as X in 2023. The original unauthorized posts may be difficult to inspect today because they were deleted; surviving screenshots and news reproductions can differ in wording or availability.
Outcome
The takeover was short-lived rather than a continuing loss of the account. By the time Bachchan posted his recovery message on February 7, the profile had been restored and the visible signs of the intrusion had been removed. The incident remains notable because the attackers changed several public-facing elements at once, including the blue verification badge, making the compromise immediately visible to followers.
