ABC News suspended correspondent Terry Moran on June 8, 2025, after a since-deleted post on X criticizing President Donald Trump and White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller. Two days later, ABC said it would not renew Moran’s agreement, calling the post a clear violation of its policies.
Why ABC suspended Terry Moran
The Associated Press reported that ABC suspended Moran after his post about Trump and Miller, pending further evaluation. ABC said it stood for objectivity and impartiality in its news coverage and did not condone subjective personal attacks.
The post criticized both men. AP and CBS News reported that Moran called Miller a “world class hater” and wrote, “his hatreds are his spiritual nourishment. He eats his hate.” The reported post also called Trump a world-class hater and characterized his hatred as serving his own glorification. The post was deleted early Sunday, so this wording is attributed to news reports rather than presented as a directly accessible original.
What ABC said about not renewing Moran’s agreement
On June 10, ABC announced that it would not renew Moran’s agreement. A network spokesperson told CBS News: “We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran and based on his recent post – which was a clear violation of ABC News policies – we have made the decision to not renew.”

ABC also said it held reporters to standards of objectivity, fairness, and professionalism and remained committed to straightforward, trusted journalism. That was the network’s stated rationale for its decision, not an independent finding about the post.
The Washington Post reported that Moran had been removed from the air pending further evaluation and described the nonrenewal as ending an ABC career that began in 1997. The Post said a network spokesperson did not clarify the agreement’s end date or whether a separate evaluation was still planned. The reporting therefore establishes the suspension followed by nonrenewal, but not the precise contract end date or the outcome of any additional evaluation.

How political figures reacted
The AP reported that Vice President J.D. Vance criticized Moran’s post and urged viewers to remember it when watching ABC’s coverage of the Trump administration. AP also reported Miller’s criticism of Moran. The Washington Post reported that administration figures pressed for consequences, while critics differed over whether ABC was right to discipline him.
The dispute raised questions about newsroom impartiality, professional standards, and expression. The cited coverage describes competing reactions; it does not establish how representative those views were of the public overall.
