ABC sports: why the schedule changes
Sports are one of the biggest reasons an ABC listing changes from the recurring entertainment schedule. The 2026 calendar includes:

- Multiple college-football windows in September
- WNBA games
- Little League coverage
- Selected College Football Playoff games
- Monday Night Football beginning September 14
ABC’s published college-football information also identifies a December 19 College Football Playoff first-round game, a January 1 quarterfinal, a January 15 semifinal, and the January 25, 2027 national championship on ABC and ESPN. The detailed ABC college-football schedule should be checked for the specific matchup, date, and window.
Live games can run past their scheduled end time. That can push a later show, movie, or local newscast back. Check the live guide shortly before airtime for college football, Monday Night Football, WNBA games, playoff games, and other events with uncertain durations. Regional rights, blackouts, and device restrictions may also affect streaming availability.

Use ABC’s state-by-state local-station directory to search by city, ZIP code, station call sign, or market name. The directory provides station websites and contact information. A local affiliate’s website is normally the best source for local news times, weather, syndicated programs, and market-specific schedule changes.
There is no universal “ABC channel 7.” The same network may appear on a different virtual channel in another city, and a streaming service may label the station by its call sign or city instead of simply calling it ABC.
How to watch ABC live
1. Over-the-air antenna
An antenna can receive the local ABC broadcast without a monthly TV subscription if your home is within reliable signal range. Reception depends on distance from the transmitter, buildings, trees, mountains, terrain, antenna type, and indoor placement. If reception is unreliable, moving an indoor antenna near a window or using an appropriately positioned outdoor antenna may help, but no antenna can guarantee reception in every location. Use the local station directory to identify the correct affiliate before troubleshooting reception.
This option gives you the local broadcast feed, including network programming and local news, but it does not automatically provide ABC News Live or on-demand episodes.
2. Cable or satellite
Cable and satellite services generally provide the ABC affiliate serving the billing market, subject to carriage agreements and local availability. Search the provider guide for the affiliate’s call sign or city, not only for the word “ABC.” Local channel availability can change during technical problems or carriage disputes.

ABC.com provides a live-TV interface, but access depends on the program, location, and authentication status. Some content is available directly, while a locked episode or network stream may require a participating TV provider.
To link a provider:
- Open a locked episode or network stream.
- Select the provider sign-in or Link TV Provider option.
- Search for and select your TV provider.
- Sign in with the provider account credentials.
- Return to the live stream or episode.
You can manage provider authentication through ABC’s profile page. A provider login may unlock more ABC content, but it does not necessarily make every local station or every sports event available in every location.
4. Hulu + Live TV
Hulu’s ABC offering is location-dependent. Enter your home ZIP code on Hulu’s ABC availability page to check the local, regional, and national channels associated with your area. Hulu warns that availability can vary by location, device, subscription, blackouts, and streaming rights.
Hulu can also provide next-day episodes of ABC original programming for eligible subscribers, including through eligible Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ bundle arrangements. Next-day on-demand access is not the same as a live ABC channel and does not automatically include every sports event or special.

5. YouTube TV
YouTube TV’s local-network tool asks for your ZIP code or home area to show the applicable lineup. Local channels can differ by location and may change when you travel. Confirm that the service carries the ABC affiliate serving your home, rather than assuming that an ABC network listing guarantees access.
6. Fubo
Fubo says ABC is carried in most major markets, but the specific local station must be checked by location. Fubo also offers national ABC East, Central, Mountain, and West feeds in applicable circumstances, with schedules adjusted by time zone. Check Fubo’s local-channel information before subscribing.
7. DIRECTV
DIRECTV’s local-channel guidance says local channels, including ABC, are available in most but not all service areas. Availability is based on the billing ZIP code and market area. Local-channel access while traveling can depend on the area where you are currently located.
8. Sling
Sling offers ABC in selected markets rather than universally. Access depends on location and plan, so check Sling’s Sling Select information and local-channel guidance before choosing the service.
Can you watch ABC for free?
Sometimes—but “free ABC” can mean several different things.
- ABC News Live: Generally free without a sign-in, but it is a separate 24/7 news stream.
- Local ABC over the air: No monthly fee after purchasing or already owning a compatible antenna, provided the signal is adequate.
- ABC’s network live stream: Access may require a participating TV provider, depending on the stream and your location.

What happened to the ABC app?
The standalone ABC app was discontinued on September 23, 2024 on mobile devices and connected TVs. Older TV guides may still tell you to download it, but those instructions are outdated. ABC directs viewers to ABC.com, participating TV providers, Hulu, Disney+, ABC News, local affiliate websites, and ESPN depending on the type of content.
For live viewing, begin with ABC.com’s live page. For a locked program, use the provider-authentication process described above. For local news, go directly to the appropriate affiliate site if the station is not among the selected local feeds on ABC.com.
Why your local ABC schedule may differ
Local programming blocks
“Local Programming” in a national listing is not empty airtime. It can represent a local morning or evening newscast, a noon or afternoon news block, a syndicated program, a paid program, a local special, or a network show delayed by the affiliate.
Affiliate differences
Two viewers in different cities can see different local-news times, syndicated shows, late-night transitions, sports preemptions, breaking-news coverage, and delayed network programs even though both are watching ABC.
Time zones
Always record the date and time zone when comparing listings. A schedule may use 8/7c, explicit Eastern/Pacific times, or the local time shown by a provider. Do not convert a national listing into Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific times without checking how the source distributes the program.
Sports overruns and special events
Live games, awards shows, election coverage, holiday programming, breaking news, and other live events can replace recurring shows or move them later. A guide checked several days in advance is useful for planning, but the live guide shortly before airtime is more reliable for events with uncertain duration.

A streaming service can list ABC while restricting particular sports, local news, devices, travel access, or out-of-market stations. Hulu specifically warns about regional availability, blackouts, device restrictions, and changing rights. Fubo and DIRECTV also explain that local feeds are location-aware. Your home ZIP code may not produce the same ABC station when you are traveling.
What to do if ABC is missing from your TV guide
- Confirm the ZIP code or home location. Local-channel lineups are market-specific on YouTube TV, Fubo, Hulu, DIRECTV, and Sling.
- Search for the affiliate’s call sign. Try WABC, KABC, WLS, WPVI, KTRK, KGO, WTVD, KFSN, or the call sign listed for your market instead of searching only for “ABC.”
- Check whether the service carries that specific affiliate. A provider may carry ABC in some markets but not yours.
- Refresh the guide and restart the device. This can correct a stale channel lineup or location check.

Why a TV listing may be wrong or incomplete
