ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” topped a 2023 poll commissioned by online car dealer webuyanycar, receiving a reported 41% of the vote. “Come On Eileen” by Dexys Midnight Runners placed second, followed by Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” The result reflects that poll—not an objective ranking of dancefloor songs or a proven measure of opinion across the UK.
What the poll reported
PerthNow reported that webuyanycar asked 2,000 people to name songs they could not resist dancing to. In its 30-song ranking, “Dancing Queen” received 41% of votes, with “Come On Eileen” in second place and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” in third. The report does not specify the denominator beyond saying 41% of the vote.

PerthNow’s June 30, 2023 report also said the newest song in the top ten was Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk” (2015), while older songs dominated the ranking.
How much the result tells us
The sample size and poll commissioner are reported, but the available coverage does not give the fieldwork dates, recruitment method, respondent geography or demographics, weighting, exact questionnaire wording, response options, or margin of error. A separate account describes the exercise as asking 2,000 people for favourite party tunes, but the survey form itself is not available. Without those details, the result should be read as a reported poll outcome, not as a representative national survey or a definitive verdict on which songs work best on a dancefloor.

Why “Dancing Queen” fits the story
“Dancing Queen” was a 1976 hit and appeared on ABBA’s album Arrival, released that year. Magic Radio/Rayo reports that the song spent six weeks at number one in the UK. Those are historical details; they do not establish why poll participants chose it.
Richard Evans of webuyanycar said: “This poll shows how much we all love to dance, with classic songs from the 70s and 80s still being popular among different generations.” The poll’s reported top ten, with “Uptown Funk” the newest entry, is consistent with the report’s emphasis on older favourites, but it does not show how different generations voted individually. Magic Radio/Rayo’s account was published July 6, 2023, and updated November 5, 2025.
