A crowd member asked King Charles to bring Prince Harry back to the UK while the king was greeting people at a London university in February 2023. According to 7NEWS, Charles replied, “Who?” and, after the person clarified the request, said, “It would be nice.” The brief exchange was reported, but it does not establish what Charles privately thought about a reconciliation.

What happened when someone asked Charles about Harry?

On 9 February 2023, as described in a report published the following day, Charles was greeting members of the public outside a London university when a well-wisher called out about his son. 7NEWS reported the request as: “Bring Harry back please… can you please bring him back please?” Charles answered, “Who?” The person clarified that they meant Harry, and Charles then said, “It would be nice.” 7NEWS reported the exchange on 10 February 2023.

Marie Claire also reported the “Who?” response, though its version of the request uses different wording. It identifies the stop as a visit to the University of East London; 7NEWS calls it a University of London visit. Because the accounts differ on the institutional name, “a London university” is the clearest description supported by both reports. Marie Claire’s account says Charles laughed and kept walking.

What did Charles’s answer mean?

The reports describe a quick public exchange, not a formal statement about Harry or the family relationship. Marie Claire notes that it was unclear whether Charles had heard or understood the original request. His reported laugh and “It would be nice” should not be treated as proof of a particular private view or a promise to bring Harry back.

The wording also comes from news accounts rather than a transcript authenticated here against the original video. The accounts agree on the central sequence—request, “Who?”, clarification, and “It would be nice”—but differ in how they quote the crowd member.

Why was the question in the news?

Harry and Meghan had stepped back as senior working royals in January 2020 and moved to California, as 7NEWS noted in its coverage. In early 2023, attention was also on whether Harry would attend Charles’s coronation, scheduled for 6 May. At the time of the 7NEWS report, the royal family had not addressed his attendance. That was the situation as reported in February 2023, not a statement about current royal arrangements.

Harry’s memoir Spare, released in January 2023, formed part of the backdrop to coverage of family tensions. Later that year, a CBS interview with Harry also discussed his relationship with his father. Those broader subjects help explain why a short crowd exchange drew attention, but they do not change what can be concluded from Charles’s reported words.

Was this a question asked to Prince Harry?

No. The February 2023 question was asked to King Charles about Harry. A separate interview in February 2024 did ask Harry whether his father’s illness might help reunite the family. Harry said he was “sure” it could and that he was grateful to have visited his father, while declining to discuss specific health details: “that stays between me and him.” TIME covered the later interview; it was a different event from the London crowd exchange.
