Johnny Depp’s so-called “French village” is a private estate near Saint-Tropez—not a public village—and $55 million was a reported historical asking price, not a confirmed sale price or current valuation. Reports describe a roughly 15-hectare hamlet-like property with a main house, guest buildings, a former chapel, a restaurant, wine cellar, pools and a skate area. The reported details and prices vary by source and listing period.
Where is Johnny Depp’s French village?
The estate is in Plan-de-la-Tour, a village in France’s Var department near Saint-Tropez. It is not within Saint-Tropez itself. The “village” label refers to the estate’s cluster of buildings and amenities; it does not mean the property is a public settlement. The Los Angeles Times reported its location and listing details in 2015, and Le Parisien revisited the estate in 2020.
What is inside the estate?
Descriptions portray a secluded private hamlet rather than a single mansion. The property is reported to include a main residence, guest accommodation and practical or recreational buildings. Exact building counts and floor-area figures differ across reports, so the lists below should be read as reported descriptions, not as a verified inventory.
The main house and guest buildings
The estate’s centerpiece is a main house, with additional guest houses or cottages. The Los Angeles Times described more than a dozen buildings across 37 acres in its 2015 account, including a staff house. A later article hosted by Paris Ouest Sotheby’s International Realty described the estate as more than 15 hectares and put the main house at 400 square metres. That 2026 description is agency-hosted reporting, not an official property record.

A chapel, restaurant and wine cellar
Reported features include a former chapel, a restaurant and a wine cellar. The 2015 Los Angeles Times account also mentioned a bar, workshop and garage. These details help explain why coverage calls the property a “village”: its buildings were described as serving distinct residential, social and working functions.
Pools and a skate area
Later accounts describe two swimming pools and a skate area among the estate’s amenities. These are reported features; the available accounts do not establish a current condition or inventory.

How much land does it cover?
Published figures are not identical. The Los Angeles Times reported 37 acres in 2015. Le Parisien and AD Magazine France later described an estate of about 15 hectares—roughly 37 acres—while the 2026 Sotheby’s-hosted article said more than 15 hectares. These are outlet-reported property figures, not independently verified measurements.
Why was it called a $55 million estate?
The $55 million figure refers to a historical asking price reported for a later listing round, with TF1 Info giving the equivalent as €50 million. It is not evidence that Depp received that amount, that a buyer paid it, or that it represents the estate’s value today. TF1 Info reported the $55 million/€50 million ask, citing the Wall Street Journal.

Reported asking prices shifted across listing periods. In 2015, the Los Angeles Times said the property was being offered for close to $26 million and reported that more than $10 million had been spent on improvements. Le Parisien’s 2020 account recounted earlier asking prices of €23 million and €50 million, and a later ask of $15 million. These figures describe separate reported listing moments and should not be treated as comparable sale prices.
Did Johnny Depp sell the estate?
The available reporting does not establish the present owner or confirm a completed sale. AD Magazine France wrote in July 2024 that the sale and ownership status remained unknown. A 2026 article hosted by Paris Ouest Sotheby’s described the estate as unsold and on the market for several years, but that is agency reporting rather than confirmation from a property registry or a completed transaction record. AD’s 2024 account and the agency-hosted 2026 article offer the latest cited descriptions here, with those limits.

What the reports can—and cannot—tell us
News and real-estate coverage offers a vivid outline of the estate’s scale and reported amenities, but the acreage, building details and prices come from different sources and listing periods. They are not an appraisal, an official inventory or proof of a transaction. No direct statement by Depp describing the property itself is established by these accounts.
