Apple has not confirmed a new Apple TV 4K or a 2026 launch date. As of October 8, 2026, Apple’s latest confirmed model in the announcements reviewed is the third-generation Apple TV 4K, introduced in October 2022. Reports point to a possible refresh, but its timing, features and price remain unverified.
When is the next Apple TV 4K coming out?
There is no confirmed release date. Apple’s June 2026 announcement about Apple Intelligence, Siri AI and tvOS 27 did not announce new Apple TV hardware. A September report from MacRumors said an October announcement was possible, while Spanish publication Cinco Días speculated about a presentation on October 13. Neither is an Apple-confirmed date, so treat October timing as speculation, not a scheduled launch. Apple’s June 2026 announcement; MacRumors, September 29, 2026; Cinco Días, October 5, 2026.
What is confirmed about the current Apple TV 4K?
Apple announced the third-generation Apple TV 4K on October 18, 2022. Its confirmed specifications include an A15 Bionic chip, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support, and two configurations:
| Configuration | Storage | Connectivity |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi | 64GB | Wi-Fi |
| Wi-Fi + Ethernet | 128GB | Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet and Thread support |
These are specifications of the released third-generation model, not a successor. Apple’s announcement also claimed up to 50 percent faster CPU performance than the previous generation; that is Apple’s launch comparison, not an independent benchmark. The announcement’s $129 starting price was the US launch price in 2022 and should not be read as a current price. Apple’s October 2022 announcement.

What features might a new Apple TV 4K have?
Rumors describe possible hardware and software changes, but none has been confirmed by Apple. MacRumors’ July 8 roundup discussed an A17 Pro or newer A-series chip, potentially more memory, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and a possible Apple-designed N1 networking chip. It also linked a potential refresh to updated Siri and Apple Intelligence features. MacRumors, July 8, 2026.
In a September 29 report, MacRumors listed further rumors: an A19 or A19 Pro chip, 8GB to 12GB of RAM, Siri AI, Wi-Fi 7 and a revised Siri Remote. Those possibilities are not established specifications; the exact processor, memory, connectivity, remote and feature set remain unknown. MacRumors, September 29, 2026.

Does Apple’s support wording confirm a new model?
No. The September report noted that Apple Support wording for Hi-Res Lossless refers to “Apple TV 4K (3rd generation or later).” MacRumors said this might hint at a later model, but also noted that Apple could have future-proofed the document or made an error. The wording is suggestive, not an announcement.
Does tvOS 27 mean a new Apple TV is coming?
No. Apple’s June 2026 software announcement discussed Apple Intelligence, Siri AI and tvOS 27, but did not announce a new Apple TV 4K. Apple’s tvOS platform information describes support for features including 4K, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dolby Atmos and Siri Remote voice commands. Apple Support’s tvOS 26 notes also describe Liquid Glass, cinematic poster art in the Apple TV app, iPhone use as an Apple Music Sing microphone and profile updates. These are software and platform details, not evidence of new hardware or confirmation that a feature will require it. Should you buy the current model or wait?
The decision depends on whether you need a streaming box now or are comfortable waiting for an unannounced product. The next model’s availability, specifications and price are unknown; compare those unknowns with what the current model actually offers and the price shown by a retailer when you buy.
| Consideration | Buy the third-generation model now | Wait for a possible successor |
|---|---|---|
| Timing | Released model; availability depends on current listings. | No launch date confirmed. |
| Chip and performance | A15 Bionic is confirmed; Apple’s up-to-50-percent CPU claim compares it with the previous generation. | Newer chip and performance gains are rumors; no verified specifications or tests. |
| Storage and connections | 64GB Wi-Fi or 128GB Wi-Fi + Ethernet, with Gigabit Ethernet and Thread on the latter. | Future configurations and connections are unconfirmed. |
| Price | Check the current listing; Apple’s $129 figure was the US launch price in 2022. | Successor pricing is unknown. |
| Your needs | Choose it if the released model already meets your streaming and smart-home needs. | Waiting makes sense if you specifically want to see whether rumored hardware or features materialize. |
Do not assume that a new Apple TV will be required to use announced tvOS features: Apple has not established that in the sources cited here.
