In the Bloomberg interview, De Luca stated: “You’re definitely going to get a sequel to Minecraft.” Bloomberg’s report on the Warner Bros. confirmation documented the announcement as a direct statement from studio leadership rather than an anonymous industry rumor.

Who is in A Minecraft Movie Squared?
A Minecraft Movie Squared includes Jared Hess as returning director. The official Minecraft announcement names Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, and Matt Berry in connection with the sequel, and confirms Kirsten Dunst as Alex.
The announcement does not provide a complete character-by-character cast breakdown. Matt Berry’s role is undisclosed in the official material reviewed, so his character should not be identified as a returning character without a later confirmation. The same caution applies to the final cast: the announcement names the performers above, but it does not establish that every participant from the first film will return.

What do we know about the sequel’s story?
The confirmed story information is limited to a broad tease of new adventures and mobs. The official announcement does not publish a full plot synopsis, named villain, list of biomes, runtime, age rating, or trailer date.
That means claims about the sequel’s storyline should be treated as speculation unless Warner Bros., Legendary, Mojang, or the official Minecraft channels confirm them. The addition of Alex is a genuine casting detail, but Alex’s role in the story beyond being played by Kirsten Dunst has not been explained.
Why is Warner Bros. making a Minecraft sequel?
The original film’s commercial performance made a sequel a logical franchise investment, although the available evidence does not prove that box-office revenue was the only reason Warner Bros. approved the project. Warner Bros. Discovery’s Q2 2025 shareholder letter described A Minecraft Movie as one of the studio’s global tentpole titles and highlighted the strength of its 2025 slate. Warner Bros. Discovery’s SEC-filed shareholder letter supports that broader commercial context.
The original film was a Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures production based on the Minecraft game property. Legendary’s official film page describes A Minecraft Movie as the first big-screen live-action adaptation of Minecraft, directed by Jared Hess and starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black.
