What makes the Cartier Crash distinctive?
The Crash stands apart from conventional round watches: its case looks warped, as if a clock face had softened and bent. British GQ describes its singular, asymmetrical character, while GQ España traces its origin to Cartier London in the 1960s and recounts an initial limited production followed by a Paris reissue. The production account is GQ España’s; it should not be read as an independently verified count. West was reported wearing the Crash during his appearance on David Letterman’s Netflix interview program.

What watch did Kanye West wear on the GQ cover?
Hodinkee and GQ España identified the watch on the cover as a solid-gold Ikepod Hemipode chronograph. Hodinkee reports that Marc Newson and Ikepod introduced the Hemipode in 1998 and describes its 44mm disc-shaped case. The article also distinguishes the original Ikepod brand, which it says was then defunct, from a later Ikepod outfit. Those details are Hodinkee’s account, published in 2020.
How do the reported watches reflect different eras and styles?
Color and casual wear
British GQ associates colorful G-Shocks—including a bright pink example—with the Late Registration period. The exact reference is not established, so someone looking for a similar look should think of a colorful Casio G-Shock rather than assume a particular model matches West’s watch.

Gold, tailoring and music-video appearances
British GQ connects a yellow-gold Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Skeleton Perpetual Calendar with the 808s & Heartbreak era and tailored jackets. It places an Everose-gold Rolex Daytona on a rubber strap in the “Otis” video with Jay-Z. These are useful sighting contexts, not proof that either watch was continuously worn during an entire era.
Unusual case shapes
The Cartier Crash and Ikepod Hemipode are memorable for their silhouettes rather than simply their materials: the Crash’s irregular case contrasts with the Hemipode’s broad, disc-like form. Their documented settings—a television interview and a magazine cover—make them among the clearest individual sightings in the coverage.

What the sightings can—and cannot—establish
The published accounts show a range of reported choices, from colorful digital watches to precious-metal luxury models. They do not establish that West owns every watch listed, that all model references are correct, or that there are exactly nine watches in his collection. Wrist Enthusiast’s model list appeared in 2022; any dollar estimates in that article are historical secondary-market estimates, not current valuations. No market-wide or collection-value figure follows from these sightings.
