iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 bring four headline Apple Music additions—Lyrics Translation, Lyrics Pronunciation, AutoMix, and Music Pins—along with Enhanced Replay Insights and several smaller interface and Sing improvements. The nine items below include both major features and related refinements, not nine equally large new inventions. Availability varies by song, language, region, account, and device.
Apple’s iOS 26 feature list identifies four headline Music additions: Lyrics Translation and Pronunciation, AutoMix, Music Pins, and Enhanced Replay Insights. The remaining items here explain related playback, interface, and Sing changes that are useful to know, but should not be mistaken for four more major features.

1. Lyrics Translation: read supported lyrics in another language
When a supported Apple Music catalog song has lyrics, you can ask Music to display a translation in your preferred language. This is useful for following a song’s meaning without leaving playback, but it is not a universal lyric translator: availability depends on the track, language combination, and region.

- Tap the song in the MiniPlayer or open the Now Playing screen.
- Tap Lyrics, then the Translation and Pronunciation button.
- Choose Show Translation.
Apple’s feature-availability list names supported language combinations, including examples such as English–Chinese, English–Japanese, Korean–English, Korean–Japanese, and Spanish–English. That list is a better guide than assuming any source and target language will work. The option may also require an Apple Music subscription and an internet connection; downloaded tracks can matter when listening offline. See Apple’s lyrics support instructions for current details.

2. Lyrics Pronunciation: a sing-along aid for unfamiliar scripts
Pronunciation displays a phonetic rendering intended to help you sing lyrics in another language. It is a practical guide, not a promise of a perfect linguistic transcription, and it appears only where Apple has supporting lyrics and pronunciation data.
- Open the song’s lyrics.
- Tap Translation and Pronunciation.
- Select Show Pronunciation.
To adjust how lyrics or pronunciation are presented, go to Settings > Apps > Music > Larger Text and choose the display preference. If neither option appears, try another catalog track, check your connection, and confirm that the song and language are supported.
3. AutoMix: smoother transitions between tracks
AutoMix analyzes musical characteristics and uses beat matching and time stretching to create DJ-style transitions between songs. It is a playback transition—not a DJ workstation, live mixing deck, or automatic playlist curator. Apple describes it as an addition to Music’s playback choices in its services announcement.

To try it, start playback, open the playback controls or queue, and select AutoMix as the transition option. Apple’s iPhone playback guide documents AutoMix alongside Crossfade.

AutoMix may suit rhythmically compatible pop, dance, or electronic playlists. It can be less welcome when an album relies on silence, precise track boundaries, live ambience, or a carefully sequenced transition. Since time stretching changes playback timing, switch it off for those listens. Apple does not promise a special mix for every song, so a transition may be subtle or simply less convincing between tracks that do not pair well.
4. Music Pins: put favorite items within easier reach
Music Pins let you keep selected songs, albums, playlists, and other music at the top of your Library. For a listener who returns to the same few items every day, this is a small but useful navigation improvement.
Look for the pin option in an item’s More menu. A pin is a shortcut, not an offline download: it does not by itself store audio on your device or remove any subscription or network requirement. Download music separately when you need it offline.

Replay remains Apple Music’s listening-history feature, not a new subscription tier. iOS 26 makes monthly and year-end statistics more visible in Music. Apple’s feature sheet confirms those enhanced insights, but does not promise identical metrics for every account or retroactively reconstructed listening history.

Stats depend on the activity Apple Music has recorded. If listening history is disabled, or you use different Apple Accounts across devices, your results may be incomplete or split. Think of Replay as a view into recorded listening, not a guaranteed comprehensive log of everything you have ever played.
6. The floating tab bar: a navigation redesign
Music’s redesigned tab bar floats over the app’s content, shrinks while you browse, and expands when you scroll back up. The goal is to keep more of a page visible while maintaining access to navigation. It uses the broader Liquid Glass design language introduced across Apple’s system apps; it is not exclusive to Music.
Apple has not documented a general switch to restore the previous tab-bar design. The change is visual and navigational rather than a new music-library or playback capability.

Sing predates iOS 26. The update’s story is an expanded, more social karaoke experience, including the ability to use an iPhone as a handheld microphone with Apple TV for amplified vocals, real-time lyrics, and visual effects. This depends on compatible hardware and current software; not every iPhone or iPad supports every Sing feature.

For supported songs, vocal-volume controls are available from the lyrics screen through the microphone or vocal-volume button. Apple’s lyrics and Sing support page describes the controls and requirements. Treat this as an ecosystem enhancement, not a reason to assume that any iPhone can act as a microphone with any television.

iOS 26 gives listeners a choice between the conventional Crossfade transition and AutoMix’s more track-aware approach. Crossfade overlaps the end of one song and the start of the next in a predictable way; AutoMix uses analysis, beat matching, and time stretching to attempt a more tailored handoff.

Crossfade is not itself a new iOS 26 invention; the useful change is having it alongside AutoMix. For an album built around silence or precise sequencing, turn transitions off rather than expecting either mode to preserve the intended presentation.
9. The core changes reach both iPhone and iPad
Apple documents the Music features in both its iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 feature sheets. The same core capabilities are intended for both platforms, though controls and layout naturally adapt to screen size. An iPad’s larger display can make lyrics and queue browsing easier to follow; it does not mean the iPad has a separate set of Music features.

Some related Apple Music experiences also span Apple’s other platforms, but availability varies by feature. Do not assume that a function announced for one Apple device is automatically present on every device.
Why a feature or lyrics button may be missing
For missing lyrics, translation, or pronunciation, check these in order:
- Make sure the track is from the Apple Music catalog. Purchased, locally synced, or imported files may not expose the same catalog lyrics.
- Check that lyrics are available for that particular song.
- Connect to the internet; download the song if you need to use it offline.
- Check the device’s language settings and Apple’s supported language combinations.
- Consider regional availability: Apple warns that features can vary by country or language.
- Update to iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 if the relevant control is absent, then test a different supported song.
Subscription requirements are not identical for every possible use of Music. Apple presents its lyrics workflow for Apple Music subscribers, and catalog-based lyrics features may not work the same way with local files or purchases. Check the specific feature and your account rather than assuming that every item in this guide has one universal plan requirement.
Which changes matter most?
If you sing along, Lyrics Translation and Pronunciation are the most distinctive additions—provided your songs and languages are covered. For playlist listeners, AutoMix is the biggest playback change, while Crossfade remains the safer predictable option. Music Pins are convenient but modest, and Replay Insights are most useful if you enjoy tracking listening history. Sing is compelling for supported Apple TV setups, but it is an expansion of an existing feature rather than a wholly new Music service.
These are practical improvements, not a guarantee that Apple Music now suits every listener better than Spotify, YouTube Music, or another service. Their value depends on the songs you play, your language, and how much you use Apple’s devices together.
