Spoilers for Season 9: The clearest confirmed surprise is family news for Maddie and Buck: their parents tell them they are getting divorced. ABC’s episode listing describes the siblings as blindsided by unexpected news, while actor Oliver Stark’s interview identifies the divorce. The available sources do not establish a separate new Chimney twist.
What is the surprise Maddie and Buck receive?
In Season 9, episode 12, “Dads and Cads,” Maddie and Buck learn that their parents are divorcing. ABC’s official listing says the siblings are blindsided by unexpected news that turns their world upside down; Stark’s interview with TV Insider, published March 5, 2026, specifies what that news is. The episode description itself does not name the divorce.
The news lands amid another difficult family detail: Buck’s parents were in California for Bobby’s funeral but did not attend. Stark’s interview describes Buck’s father later visiting and wanting to hear about Bobby, whom Buck had said helped raise him.
What did Bobby do for Buck and Eddie?
Buck and Eddie learn that Bobby had submitted them for the national firefighter games. Stark said of Bobby’s gesture: “I think it means everything to him. Obviously, Bobby is maybe one of the first people in Buck’s life that really believed in him.” He was discussing Bobby’s nomination of the two firefighters, and his comments are an actor’s interpretation of Buck’s feelings, not an official episode synopsis.

Is there a new surprise for Chimney?
The sources reviewed do not confirm a distinct latest surprise specifically for Chimney. ABC’s episode listings identify him in the cast and describe other developments, but they do not substantiate a new Chimney twist matching the family news for Maddie and Buck. It would be misleading to present the siblings’ divorce news as a surprise for all three characters.
