Spoilers for the series finale, “Homecoming.” The finale puts Owen Strand and Tommy Vega in apparent danger, but neither dies. Executive producer Rashad Raisani said he considered killing Owen and ultimately chose an ending that left viewers with joy and a sense that life goes on.
Did anyone die in the 9-1-1: Lone Star finale?
No main character dies in “Homecoming.” The episode’s catastrophic events make Owen and Tommy appear to be lost, using the threat of death to build suspense before revealing that they survive. TheWrap’s post-finale account says all the main characters walk away with their lives.
Whose death did the showrunner consider?
Rashad Raisani, the show’s executive producer and showrunner, said he considered killing Owen Strand. That possibility was discarded; Owen’s death was not part of the ending that aired. TheWrap also reports that Raisani had promised Gina Torres, who plays Tommy, that he would never kill her character.
Why did the finale spare Owen and Tommy?
Raisani said he wanted the ending to leave viewers with joy and the sense that life goes on. As he told TVLine, “it’s sad enough that this show was ending at all, so I just wanted to leave people with a sense of joy and that life goes on.” The choice makes the apparent losses a suspense device rather than the show’s final statement about its characters.

Did a character’s death perfectly end the show?
That is an interpretation, not a confirmed creative intention. The finale invites viewers to fear that Owen or Tommy may die, and Raisani later confirmed that Owen’s death was considered. But the broadcast ending spares the characters, and his explanation points to a different aim: ending the series with hope rather than adding another loss to the show’s conclusion.
When did the series finale air?
FOX’s official schedule identifies “Homecoming” as the series finale and lists it for Monday, February 3, 2025. Before the episode aired, TheWrap promoted the two-part finale as “apocalyptic”; that advance description set a dramatic tone but did not establish that a character would die.
