For free movies without entering an email or payment card, start with Xumo Play, then try Tubi or Pluto TV. These U.S.-focused services offer legal, ad-supported movies, but “free” usually means commercials, not the newest theatrical releases. The Roku Channel and Plex also have free movies, though their interfaces mix in other content and features. Fawesome and FilmRise are useful possible backups, but their current no-account playback requirements are less clearly documented.
Here, “no sign-up” means you can start at least some free viewing without creating an account, beginning a trial, or providing payment details. It does not promise that every title, device, or optional feature works without an account. Catalogs and access can change by location and over time.
Quick comparison
| Service | Best for | Free movies | Live channels | Account-free access | Main caveat |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tubi | Broad on-demand selection | Yes | Some | Basic viewing is promoted as free without a subscription or credit card; account prompts may vary | Ads; an account is useful for syncing and watch history |
| Pluto TV | Live movie channels and on-demand titles | Yes | Strong | Optional profile; check the title and device flow | Some viewing is scheduled, not selectable on demand |
| The Roku Channel | Free-TV hub with movies and live channels | Yes | Strong | Check title-level access | Free and paid offerings share the interface |
| Plex | Free streaming alongside personal-media tools | Yes | Yes | Some features prominently invite sign-in; verify playback for the title | Free streaming and other Plex features can be easy to confuse |
| Xumo Play | Lowest sign-up friction | Yes | Strong | Yes: Xumo says no account, login, subscription, or credit card is required | Ad-supported; no ad-free version |
| Fawesome | Possible niche or library-style backup | Yes | Varies | Not clearly established: confirm playback before relying on it | Current account policy is less clear |
| FilmRise | Crime, documentaries, older TV, and niche programming | Yes, including through partner services | Via services that carry its programming | Not clearly established on its standalone site | The site may be more of a brand or discovery hub than a single movie player |
How to read the account column: “No subscription” does not necessarily mean “no account.” Xumo is the clearest match to the literal requirement in the available provider information. For other services, a free account may be optional or useful, but the exact playback path can depend on the title and device. Do not assume browsing a catalog proves you can play a movie without registering.

Tubi is the strongest first stop if you want to choose a movie from a searchable catalog rather than browse a channel schedule. The service describes itself as free and legal, with no subscription or credit card required, and supports browsers and a broad range of connected devices. Its movies and shows are funded by commercial breaks, as explained in Tubi’s help center.

- HD streaming made simple: With America’s number 1 TV streaming platform,* exploring popular apps—plus tons of free movies, shows, and live TV—is as easy as it is fun. *Based on hours streamed—Hypothesis Group
- Compact without compromises: The sleek design of Roku Streaming Stick won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
Start at the official site or app, choose a title marked as free, and see whether playback begins without an account prompt. Tubi promotes accounts for features such as syncing and continuing to watch across devices, so distinguish those conveniences from the basic free offering. Availability varies by country, and a large catalog does not mean every film will be available when you look.
Best for: viewers who want a broad, general-purpose on-demand starting point. Trade-off: expect ads, and check the actual playback flow if avoiding registration is essential.
2. Pluto TV — best for live movie channels
Pluto TV combines free on-demand movies with live, scheduled channels. It is a good fit if you enjoy channel surfing or want a traditional television experience; it is less direct when you have one specific film in mind. Pluto describes browser viewing and an optional profile for features such as favorites and watch history.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesLook for the on-demand movie area when you want to select a particular title. A movie channel is different: it broadcasts a schedule, so you may need to wait for a film to start or catch it partway through. Commercials are part of the service. Browser, mobile, smart-TV, and streaming-device options are listed by Pluto, but availability can vary.
Best for: live movie channels plus a secondary on-demand library. Trade-off: scheduled programming and selectable movies are not the same thing.

3. The Roku Channel — best as a broad free-TV hub
The Roku Channel offers free movies and shows, Roku Originals, and live channels, and it can be used through a browser as well as on Roku devices. It is a useful option even if you do not own Roku hardware.
Pay close attention to title labels. The interface can include paid or subscription offerings alongside free programming, so do not assume every tile is included at no cost. Choose an item marked free or watch-free and check whether its playback path asks you to sign in. Its selection and availability may differ by country.

Best for: viewers who want movies in a larger free-TV mix. Trade-off: free and paid content in one interface can make it less obvious what costs nothing.
4. Plex — best if you also use personal-media features
Plex has free movies and TV, live channels, and tools for discovering content. It may suit households that already use Plex to organize personal media, but those features are separate from its ad-supported streaming catalog.
Some prominent Plex options invite users to sign in. If your priority is account-free viewing, select a free streaming title and confirm that the movie itself plays without registration; browsing or seeing a listing is not enough. Plex’s free catalog is not necessarily as consistently deep as the largest general-purpose services, and some content or features may have different requirements.

5. Xumo Play — clearest answer to “no account”
Xumo Play is the clearest choice when avoiding registration matters more than finding the largest on-demand selection. Xumo’s support pages say the service requires no subscription, account, login, or credit card, and describe it as free and ad-supported. Its free-movies area organizes titles into genres including action, horror, comedy, crime, romance, family, documentaries, and classics.
Xumo also offers live channels, so check whether a title is on demand or part of a scheduled broadcast. Xumo says there is no ad-free version. Its main site advertises channel and on-demand-title counts, but those numbers can change and may count different kinds of programming; they should not be treated as a guarantee of movie depth.
Best for: getting started without an account or payment details. Trade-off: it is an ad-supported free-TV platform, not an ad-free premium catalog.
6. Fawesome — a possible niche backup
Fawesome presents itself as a free movie and TV portal with genre-oriented browsing. It may be worth checking for older, independent, genre, or library-style titles when a movie is not available on the larger services.

The available first-party information does not establish as clearly that registration is never required. Open the official site and try starting a movie before counting on it as a no-sign-up service. Do not rely on catalog-size claims unless the provider publishes a current figure and makes clear what it counts.
Best for: an additional place to look for niche titles. Trade-off: treat account-free playback as something to confirm, not a guarantee.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.7. FilmRise — specialist programming, but verify the viewing route
FilmRise is associated with movies, TV series, documentaries, crime, reality, and other specialist programming. Its titles also appear through partner streaming services, so FilmRise programming may be available in an app you already use.
The standalone FilmRise site does not provide a sufficiently clear no-account statement to promise that its own browser path meets the strict requirement. A brand page, a list of programs, a FilmRise channel on another platform, and a playable movie are not necessarily the same thing. Check the specific official viewing destination and title before relying on it.

Best for: specialist and older programming, including documentaries. Trade-off: availability may depend on which service carries the title, and standalone account-free playback is not clearly established.

What “free” and “no sign-up” mean
Most services in this list use ad-supported streaming: you pay no subscription fee, but commercial breaks help fund the programming. Some also offer live channels, where the schedule determines what is playing, and on-demand movies, where you select a title. Those are different ways to watch, even when they appear in the same app.
This list excludes services that require a paid trial, a payment method to begin, or a library or university login from the strict no-sign-up picks. A free account may still unlock conveniences such as a watchlist, profiles, parental controls, or viewing history. A service should only be called account-free for your purpose if you can actually begin the movie without entering an email address or payment information.
Expect many free catalogs to emphasize older studio films, independent titles, genre movies, documentaries, and television. Catalog size is not a promise of quality or freshness: rights rotate, and a title can disappear. “Free” does not mean new theatrical releases are included, and the same movie may not be available in every country or on every device.
Can you watch on a TV?
Most major services offer some combination of browser, Android or iOS apps, smart-TV apps, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, or game-console support. Exact device availability differs by service and can change. Check the service’s official app listing for your particular TV or streaming device. If you use a browser, try the official website first; installing a special player or browser extension should not be necessary for ordinary movie playback.
Having an account on a device platform is separate from signing up for each streaming service. For example, a streaming device may ask you to sign in to its own ecosystem even when a free app does not require an account. If avoiding every kind of account is important, browser viewing may be simpler, where supported.
What about Kanopy and Hoopla?
Hoopla and Kanopy can be worthwhile for documentaries, independent films, classics, and other library-backed programming, but they do not meet the strict no-sign-up test. Hoopla says viewers need a library card and an account. Kanopy generally requires access through a participating library or university, and the institution determines availability and any borrowing limits. Think of them as alternatives if you have eligible credentials, not as registration-free sites.
How to find a particular movie legally
If you have a specific title in mind, use a legal availability guide such as JustWatch to check where it is listed, then confirm the result on the streaming provider’s official page. JustWatch helps locate a title; it does not stream the movie or guarantee that playback will be free, ad-free, or account-free on the destination service.

- Use the provider’s official website or its app-store listing, not lookalike pages or unofficial mirrors.
- Avoid sites with multiple fake play buttons, prompts to install an unknown player, or requests to add a browser extension just to watch a film.
- Do not enter card details on a page claiming that a movie is free unless you have confirmed you are on an official service and understand the charge or trial terms.
- On services that mix free and paid content, check for a clear free label before selecting a title.
Official ad-supported services are a more dependable place to begin than piracy-style sites, which can expose viewers to misleading downloads and other risks. A free movie site should make the viewing route and any account or payment requirements clear.
