How to stream 28 Years Later
Netflix is the current U.S. subscription-streaming option identified by JustWatch. That does not mean the film is permanently included with Netflix, available in every country, or accessible under every plan. Netflix’s catalog changes, so check the film’s listing in your account if it does not appear in search.
JustWatch reported no free streaming option in its most recent U.S. check. “Free” also should not be confused with access through an existing Netflix subscription: Netflix access generally requires an eligible paid subscription, and plan availability and terms can change.
Where to rent or buy the movie digitally
28 Years Later is listed for paid rental or purchase through:
- Amazon Video
- Apple TV Store
- Fandango at Home
JustWatch reported a U.S. rental price of $5.99 when its listing was checked. Treat that as a snapshot rather than a guaranteed current price: rental fees, purchase prices, sale periods, video quality, and rental windows vary between services and over time.

If you want to confirm the currently supported digital retailers in one place, Sony’s official 28 Years Later page points viewers toward digital and physical-media destinations including Apple TV, Prime Video, Fandango, DIRECTV, Sony Pictures Core, Amazon, Target, and Walmart. Retailer availability may still differ by location.
DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD release
Sony’s home-media release includes all three commonly requested disc formats:
| Edition | Best for | Important compatibility point |
|---|---|---|
| 28 Years Later 4K UHD Blu-ray or 4K SteelBook | Collectors and viewers seeking the highest-quality physical presentation | Requires a 4K UHD Blu-ray player for the disc, plus a compatible HDR-capable 4K television and suitable high-speed HDMI equipment for 4K HDR playback. |
| 28 Years Later Blu-ray | Viewers who want high-definition physical media without moving to 4K equipment | Requires a Blu-ray player. A standard Blu-ray player is not a substitute for a 4K UHD Blu-ray player when playing a 4K UHD disc. |
| 28 Years Later DVD | DVD-only players, existing DVD libraries, or collectors who specifically want the DVD edition | Works with DVD hardware but does not provide the same high-definition presentation as Blu-ray or 4K UHD. |
Sony specifically states that 4K HDR playback requires a compatible 4K UHD Blu-ray player, an HDR-capable 4K television, and appropriate high-speed HDMI equipment. If your equipment is older or you are unsure which disc format it supports, standard Blu-ray or DVD is the safer purchase.
Which version should you choose?
For one-time viewing
Use Netflix if you already subscribe and the movie is available in your U.S. account. Otherwise, a digital rental is the simplest route. Compare the current rental price across Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, and Fandango at Home before paying, because prices are not fixed.

- Argo (4K UHD + Blu-ray)
For repeat viewing or offline ownership
A digital purchase avoids relying on the film remaining in a subscription catalog, but it is still tied to the retailer’s account and playback ecosystem. A physical disc is a more durable choice for viewers who want a copy independent of changing streaming licenses or who regularly revisit the movie.
The 28 Years Later 4K UHD Blu-ray is the logical physical choice for a compatible 4K setup. The standard 28 Years Later Blu-ray is the better compromise for high-definition viewing with more widely available hardware. Choose the 28 Years Later DVD only when DVD compatibility or collection preference matters more than image quality.
For collectors
Look for the 4K UHD release or 4K UHD SteelBook if packaging and the highest-resolution disc presentation are priorities. Before ordering, verify the exact edition, included discs, seller, region compatibility, and whether the listing is new or used. Retail inventory and edition details can change, so the title alone is not enough to identify a particular package.

Do not confuse it with 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is a separate 2026 sequel, not an alternate edition or subtitle for the 2025 film. It has its own release schedule and availability. Netflix maintains separate pages for the two titles, so check that the listing says simply 28 Years Later if you are looking for the first film.
Availability outside the U.S.
The dates and services in this article are U.S.-specific. Netflix catalogs and digital storefronts differ internationally, and other countries may receive different theatrical, VOD, streaming, DVD, Blu-ray, or 4K UHD dates. Subtitles, audio tracks, disc regions, packaging, and retailer inventory can also vary.
For another country, select the correct territory on a current streaming-availability guide and check local retailer listings. Do not assume that a U.S. Netflix listing, U.S. rental price, or U.S. disc date applies elsewhere.
