Which genre movies marked milestone anniversaries in 2025? Among the best-known were Jaws at 50, Back to the Future and The Goonies at 40, and Clueless and Die Hard with a Vengeance at 30. A handful also had announced theatrical screenings, but an anniversary year did not automatically mean a re-release.
Major genre-film anniversaries in 2025
This selection focuses on widely recognized titles, notable anniversary years, genre variety, and—in some cases—documented theatrical events. It is not a complete ranking or a list of every film with an anniversary in 2025. Anniversary dates can also differ by territory and by whether a source counts a premiere or general release, so the films below are grouped by year rather than by exact release day unless an event date is specified.

Which films had confirmed 2025 theater events?
Fathom Entertainment’s Big Screen Classics program announced select repertory screenings; these were historical event dates, not upcoming showtimes. Its slate included The Goonies on January 19, Clueless on June 29–30, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest on July 13 and 16, Sunset Boulevard on August 3–4, and The Sound of Music on September 13–14 and 17. Fathom also listed Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade on June 15 and 18, and a special engagement of Rocky IV: Rocky vs. Drago (Ultimate Director’s Cut) on November 5 and 9. Fathom said film historian and critic Leonard Maltin would provide introductions for the series. The announcement’s ticket-sale date was May 2, 2025; it is not current ticket guidance. Whether a film reached a milestone in 2025 and whether it received a theatrical event are separate questions: Fathom’s program covered selected titles, not every anniversary film.

More 2025 milestone screenings beyond genre cinema
Fathom’s calendar also included Sunset Boulevard for its 75th anniversary, The Sound of Music for its 60th, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest for its 50th. These are not all genre films in the narrow sense, but they show the breadth of the repertory program. Fathom noted that One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest swept the top five Academy Awards in 1976, a feat it described as last achieved by It Happened One Night in 1934. In its 2025 announcement, Fathom CEO Ray Nutt said, “Nearly 60% of this increase has been the result of Fathom successfully leveraging repertory films, including the ‘Fathom’s Big Screen Classics’ series.” The figure refers to Fathom’s revenue growth over the preceding two years as characterized in the announcement; it is the share of that increase attributed to repertory films, not 60% of total company revenue.
