Miley Cyrus wins her first Grammys for “Flowers”
“Flowers” earned Cyrus both Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. The Recording Academy reported that these were the first two Grammy wins of her career. Cyrus also performed the song during the ceremony; the Academy described the appearance as its live television debut. The Academy’s coverage of Cyrus’s Grammy night details the performance and awards.
SZA and Phoebe Bridgers win for “Ghost In The Machine”
SZA and Phoebe Bridgers won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Ghost In The Machine.” SZA’s album SOS was separately nominated for Album of the Year; it did not win that category. What the three major song and album awards recognize
Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year are separate honors, not interchangeable labels for the same achievement. The Recording Academy’s category descriptions distinguish their focus:
- Record of the Year recognizes the overall achievement of a recording and its recording contributors.
- Song of the Year is a songwriter award. Billie Eilish and FINNEAS won for “What Was I Made For?”
- Album of the Year honors an album. Taylor Swift won for Midnights.
