How the film’s quotes relate to the book
The Polar Express is a 2004 film directed and co-written by Robert Zemeckis, with William Broyles, Jr. as co-writer, based on Chris Van Allsburg’s 1985 picture book. AFI notes that the adaptation retained the book’s first and last narrative lines and every drawing, while expanding minor characters and adding Hobo. That does not mean every line of film dialogue appears in the book: dialogue belongs to the film’s scenes and speakers, while the book tells its story through words and still images. Film Education highlights that difference between the film’s animated images and sounds and the book’s still images and words. AFI Catalog · Film Education resource
For the source story, look for Chris Van Allsburg’s The Polar Express picture book. The Open Library catalog also lists a 2004 movie shadow book described as based on the screenplay and original book; that is a separate publication, not the original picture book.
The candidate dialogue and attributions here come from a user-contributed IMDb quote listing, rather than an authoritative transcript. Treat exact wording and punctuation as unverified against an official script; the lines are intended as a selection of memorable moments, not a definitive ranking.
